The Sixth Axis (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/04/27/background-patching-coming-to-ps3/comment-page-2/) are reporting that they've had word 'off the record' that the PS3's slightly bulky and inefficient patching system will likely be getting a much-needed streamlining soon, allowing patches for games to be downloaded in the background while you play another game or watch a movie. This will be a godsend to thousands of gamers who don't have blazing fast broadband speeds, and have had to endure sometimes several hours of staring at a black screen while they download up to 400MB worth of updates for their new game.
Whilst this is unconfirmed, and Sony have adopted their usual 'say-nothing' stance, it would most definitely make sense, and would - for my money at least - fix the single biggest irritation of owning a PS3.
