Honestly, I think this is a whole lot of ruckus over nothing much.

Sony shouldn't have removed it, fullstop. The PS3 as it was was meant to come out with it's own version of Linux, and they failed to provide it, leaving it to 3rd party people to spend time making a compatible version. Now it's a complete waste of time.

Problem is, Sony have every right to add or remove features as and when they see fit. As long as it's not a 'core' feature, such as the ability to read blu-rays, play games etc.
I may be ignorant on this one, but other than potential piracy or other para-legal activities. What other uses and advantages are there to installing another OS?
