'no Gears of War on PS3 any time soon...'

In an interview on Kotaku Radio, Gears of War Design Director Cliffy.B was asked about the persistent rumour floating around that one of Microsoft's flagship franchises, Gears of War could be making its way to the PS3 in the near future:

“Honestly there’s really no plans for any Gears on PS3 any time soon, which I can confirm”

I'm sure that this will have a lot of xbox fans releasing fairly large sighs of relief - the xbox is struggling enough to get major exclusives for their platform, without the worry of losing one of their biggest franchises. Unfortunately, this looks like being a rumour that won't go away, as it appears that Microsoft don't actually have exclusivity for the GoW franchise, hence the appearance of the original GoW on PC.

Ugh.... I wanted Gears of War on PS3, in all honesty that is the only Xbox 360 exclusive that I am at all jealous of.

I hope they eventually decide to bring it over.

It's impossible! Microsoft studio owns the rights to the Gears francise.. like Mass Effect 1, that's why it will never see a ps3 release. Mass Effect 2 is a different story because Microsoft let go of the Franchise so EA picked it up, which is why ME2 is releasing on PS3

He might have a point. Since you said that Gears of War 1 appeared on PC, well keep in mind who owns PC, Microsoft.

So maybe Microsoft does have control over the series.

It's not a maybe they have control. It's raw fact.

Microsoft is the distributor, and Microsoft are not (period) going to release it on PS3. Nor will they ever release any game on PS3, because they're Microsoft, and that would be like shooting themselves in the foot.

Hell, Microsoft pay folks like Bungie and LionHead Studios money to make games for their platforms and for no one else; that's why the Halo and Fable series is XBox exclusive, save for release on Microsoft Windows. Same thing applies for Gears of War.

On a side note, I wonder what impact the blown security of PS3 might have on the xbox exclusive list. Lots of deals to be struck in the coming months.

Maybe nothing at all :D My thinking was developing exclusively for PS3 was more lucrative while the system was secure. As nowhere is safe for devs now... I don't actually know what I'm thinking :p:D
