Well, Valve have busted in through the wall Cool-aid guy style with a surprise release of a limited beta of a rather large update for Counter-Strike: Source.

All slots for the beta have been filled, but once they've finished with the beta and fixed anything that comes up in it, the update will be applied to the game -- with all owners of CS:S obviously getting it for free and anyone else having to buy the game... obviously...

The Beta's feature list includes:

144 achievements added
New lifetime player stats and summary screens
New match player stats and summary screens
New end of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player
Updated scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures
New cinematic death camera
New domination and revenge system
Added avatar icons to voice chat, scoreboard, and end of round display
Incorporated many source engine updates

Now, the main reason this interests me is that it might just hint towards the long hoped for and anticipated update of HL2 and HL2:Ep1 to the HL2:Ep2/L4D2 Source engine version... maybe... hopefully... please?

Anyway. Just posting some news for all you good boys and girls.

Huh, Valve's dedication to their online communities is only matched by their apparent disregard for their offline ones. :p

Screw CounterStrike, JUST GET ON WITH EPISODE 3 ALREADY!

Oh boy. Can you hear the rage coming on? "DON'T TOUCH MY PRECIOUS COUNTER STRIKE"

Sounds cool though, maybe it will get me to play counter strike again for a few hours.

Well, other than the vocal minority, I think most players are supporting the update.

Is there the usual screamy bunch of fans? I'm almost afraid of going on the Steam forums since I generally end up leaving pissed off by someone.

You have the "WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO RUIN COMPETITIVE CSS VALVE?!?!!?!11?!1" and then you have everyone else who think that, while there are a few things that need fixing, it's a good update.
