View Full Version : Torchlight
First let me say that Torchlight is priced perfectly at 20 USD considering its single player only. It was developed by some ex Blizzard guys which says a lot about the quality.
If you liked Diablo2 or the more recent Titan Quest then you will most likely love this game. It has great graphics and I have read that it can run on netbooks with integrated gpus. Random dungeon sets plus hackNslash gameplay with tons of loot. All the mechanics of D2 but with enhancements on top. The best feature I have enjoyed so far is that your pet can run to town and sell items for you while you continue to slay the horde.
Check it out and let me know what you all think.

I might well have a look at this. I never played D2 for one reason or another, but always meant to try it. I'll probably wait for it to be included in a Steam sale.
I actually own Titan Quest and the expansion pack, as I got them as part of the THQ complete pack I picked up a while back. I've never played it, but I may well give it a look at some point once I finish Dragon Age: Origins and get a little further into Guild Wars.

Just bought the game today, well worth the money. I never played wow and not a huge fan or RPG's, but i quite like this game and it runs fairly smooth on my laptop, which is why i wanted it.

This is actually a great game. I played the free demo that's on Steam, and I loved it. It's a casual game that's a whole lot of fun.
I was on Skype to a mate while playing the demo and he was kinda annoyed because I was laughing out loud running around with two pistols and a whole bunch of magic slaughtering hundreds of creatures and whoring loot like the best of harlots.
If I had money to spare, I'd have bought it the moment the demo ended... but I didn't, and still don't.
I'd recommend it to anyone that has the money free.

Back-to-back post? Oh snap. Anyway.
I just thought I'd come profess my love for this game further now that I've actually bought it and played several hours of pants-jizzingly good fun with it.
One of the characters was starting to royally piss me off because she's a bloody pretentious tosswad who shows up after ever important event and goes "oh, good work--now go do this" before pissing off back to her comfortable mansion or whatever-the-fuck she does.
But then she got kidnapped so now I'm happy again :D
I'm rolling a Vanquisher and I'm up (down?) to level 29/30 (I forget). Basically running around with a rifle that is more cannon than rifle and using the Explosive Shot ability to rape everything, anything and nothing all at the same time. I also look like a pirate.
Anyone else have it and feel like getting some discussion going?

Grrrrrrgh.
I'm enjoying the game but for one thing. The framerate issues.
I freely admit that I don't own the greatest gaming rig in the known galaxy, but this is a laptop that can pretty comfortably run Left 4 Dead 2 at 1200x800 on medium settings, yet for some reason Torchlight will decide to randomly drop from 50+ FPS to about 8 FPS. It can be anything - a battle, wandering round a dungeon, destroying a barrel... it seems to be completely at random that my framerate will suddenly plummet.
It's a good game, but for me, it's unplayable in its current condition. It appears I'm not alone either, with quite a few people reporting major framerate problems on a variety of machines.
*sigh*

I'm strongly considering making the purchase, but first I want to try the demo. It's a big shame Steam and Firefox refuse to launch any Steam related links. I completely missed out on the Diablo 2 fiasco, so I feel like I could make up with this.

Ah, it appears that the framerate issue was due to Avira Antivir Guard interfering and trying to access the files. Disabled that and all seems to be running fine.

I tried the demo, 18 minutes left in the 120 trial and it flew by like a snap. I might get it tomorrow while the sale is still up. Though I do worry that ill get bored of it fast... It plays kind of like a point-and-click adventure game without the thinking part.

The fun doesn't stop... seriously. I thought it might. But then it didn't.

Yep, can vouch for it too. Seen a few that's been saying that they got tired of the game fast, but so far I've been playing it for a 40 odd hours and still going strong. :)

I'm enjoying it so far. Can't manage more than a few straight hours, but it's nice mindless fun, and the monsters don't cry "hAx0r!!!11!!one!!eleven!1!" every time you kill them, which is a refreshing change.
Out of interest, how many of you guys have actually played Diablo 2? I'm just thinking - if there's enough of us that haven't played it, surely it would make sense for us all to get it and form a party, then at least we'd all be able to experience what is a fairly essential purchase by all accounts.

Diablo 2? Yeah I've played a few... hundred... ish... maybe... thousand... hours... >.>
Haven't played it for quite a while, though. My last playthrough was with a mate and we finished it completely through to Hell mode, and all the Uber bosses.

Think i tried diablo a few years back, but was thrown off by it's "outdated" graphics. It's a bit to technical for my taste, unlike Torchlight which is pretty basic.

I haven't played Diablo 1/2.
Well... I have, technically. For about fifteen minutes. However not only was my computer not good enough for it, it was in english and I did not understand a single thing.
I don't mind the graphics though, so I'm game.

There's very little difference between the two when it comes to ease of use, actually.
I have D2 and the expansion so I would be interested in dusting off my bowazon skills and starting back through the game. The graphics are kind of bleh now but the game is fun enough to overlook them.
