Very simple game - I give you a few clues as to the game, you try to guess it. If you do you get.. well.. nothing... but bragging rights anyway :1st:
If no-one can guess it after 10 posts, I'll add more clues.
Then I do a new game and we move on :D
First Game:
Released in the late 70's
It was designed as a hobby by a teenager in Texas
The cover has a demon on it
-
Good luck :D

I was going to go with 'Doom' until I re-read it was in the late 80's, and I think Doom was early '90s...
Lance
06-18-2010, 04:52 PM
Oh shi* - sorry, re-editied that, it's not late 80's, it's late 70's
dimples
06-18-2010, 05:36 PM
Pong :D
Lance
06-19-2010, 09:05 AM
Nope, sorry dimples - don't think Pong had a demon on the cover :D
Jason

See, for the time period I'm thinking this might well be a text-based job... I'm pretty sure it's not Zork though.
Lance
06-19-2010, 09:23 AM
You're right in that it's not Zork..... could be wrong with your other assumption too.
Jason

Akalabeth: World of Doom was kind of text-based, I believe, and I think it was released in the late '70s. Never played it, and can't find much on it online to confirm or deny my suspicion though. Apparently it was the first RPG, if my memory serves correctly.
Lance
06-19-2010, 09:40 AM
Ding Ding! We have our first winner :1st: Congratulations for correctly guessing Akalabeth
Have to run for a little while, but when I come back I'll post the new game
dimples
06-19-2010, 09:27 PM
Never even heard of such thing :D
Lance
06-20-2010, 03:50 AM
That's ok dimples - most of these are easily researched on google
Game 2: (Probably going to be an easy one :D)
Released in the late 80's in Japan and Europe before being ported to U.S and is part of a long running series
The protagonist in this installment is a genetic clone
This game in the series ranked 104th in Nintendo Power's Top 200 List.
Jason
06-20-2010, 03:17 PM
Ooh, I think I know this one, but I'll hold fire and see if anyone else gets it. :)
Lance
06-21-2010, 05:28 PM
I know, it's an easy one.
Come on guys, who wants bragging rights?
dimples
06-22-2010, 08:57 PM
Wouldn't know it even if my life depend on it :D I'm such a modern gamer, that I don't know anything about old games. Well very little
Konrad
06-24-2010, 11:43 AM
And I'm a wee little lad who hardly remembers when Doom was released, but when I think long running japan I think Final Fantasy.
Lance
06-24-2010, 12:32 PM
Hmmm, close Konnie, but nope.
Though the highest ranking FF game on Nintendo Powers' Top 200 was FF VI, which ranked at 14th, and released in '94
Steph
06-26-2010, 12:01 AM
Metal Gear?
Jason
06-26-2010, 12:26 AM
Lady's got it, unless I'm also mistaken.
Lance
06-26-2010, 04:52 AM
The lady is..... correct! The game is Metal Gear :1st:
Next Game:
This is a game from the 90's and was an arcade hit before being ported to consoles.
It's been listed as the 5th best fighting game of all time.
One of the games "finishers" forced the opponent to dance.
Serio
06-26-2010, 03:27 PM
Mortal Kombat? That's the only one I can think of that could possibly have a "dance" finishing move.
Lance
06-26-2010, 03:55 PM
Very close - but I think MK ranks higher than this game - probably 2nd or 3rd
MyNameDidntFit
06-26-2010, 05:38 PM
Well, other than MK there are only really Street Fighter and Tekken that I can think of...
Lance
06-26-2010, 06:55 PM
No and No
I actually thought this one would be easy :D
Ok, another hint:
Two characters were a Skeleton and a Native American Chief...
MyNameDidntFit
06-26-2010, 07:08 PM
Fighting games were never my thing...
Jason
06-26-2010, 09:29 PM
A Skeleton?! Is it Killer Instinct, by any chance?
Archangel
06-27-2010, 05:52 AM
Fighting games were never my thing...
Oldschool arcade games were generally never my thing.
If it weren't on the Sega Megadrive or later, then I don't know it.
Lance
06-27-2010, 06:33 AM
That's 'cuz Arcades pretty much don't exist here anymore :p Timezone is all but obsolete.
But Jase is correct - Killer Instinct is the game :1st:
New Game:
This PC game is one of the iconic games of the late 90's and is still massively popular to this day
Made it's debut at E3 in 1996
Guinness World Records gave it 4 world records.
The game has spawned novels, action figures and board games amongst other things.
Serio
06-27-2010, 02:19 PM
Four world records? Is it Starcraft?
Archangel
06-27-2010, 05:06 PM
Seems to fit, though strictly speaking, StarCraft got a console port in the 2000-ish area.
Jason
06-28-2010, 03:12 AM
Warcraft?
Lance
06-28-2010, 03:33 AM
Nope, Starcraft is the answer :D Serio got it
Will return later to do the new one, don't have time right now.
Steph
06-28-2010, 10:21 PM
Will return later to do the new one, don't have time right now.
Awwh damn, was quite excited to log on and see if there was a new one.
Ahhh, I feel sad now haha.
Lance
06-29-2010, 04:19 AM
Sorry Steph :D
New Game:
The first major release of 2000
It spawns expansions and sequels faster than cockroach's breed
20th Century Fox bought the movie rights for the game in 2007
Archangel
06-29-2010, 04:24 AM
I'mma have to go with The Sims, here.
Dunno if that's scheduled for movie-fication, though, but lord knows it got enough expansions.
Lance
06-29-2010, 05:32 AM
... ok, need to make these harder :D Yeah, The Sims is correct
20th Century bought the rights, but IMDB has no information apart from that it's scheduled for a 2012 release. Whether it actually DOES get released is another matter.
New Game:
Simulation game from '94
Was originally slated to be something else, but they thought they would loose too much control, and hence this game was made.
The game was created and programmed by Peter Molyneux and Demis Hassabis
Jason
06-29-2010, 06:02 AM
1994? Peter Molyneux? I'd have to have a shot at Theme Park.
Lance
06-29-2010, 08:05 AM
*@$%#!
You guys are getting good at this :p
New Game:
Released in '97
Quote:
"Soon, I'll use this voodoo cannonball to send my significant other to the significant OTHERWORLD! Bwa, ha, ha. That'll show her how much I truly care."
Serio
06-30-2010, 07:27 AM
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is what sprung to mind when reading that quote.
Lance
06-30-2010, 10:02 AM
It would fit yeah :D
But nope, it's not Oddworld
Steph
07-02-2010, 12:05 AM
The Curse of Monkey Island?
Lachuck right?
Jason
07-02-2010, 12:13 AM
*facepalms* of course!
Lance
07-07-2010, 02:15 PM
Steph is CORRECT! Good going - Jase, facepalm yourself for not knowing better :p
Next Game:
This RPG was released for the PC in 1988 and is the first of a 2 game series.
The title involves a quarter moon bird.
It's attached to one of the most popular Board Game/Video Game/Book series off all time.
Lance
07-27-2010, 01:26 PM
No takers?
Jason
07-27-2010, 01:56 PM
I was waiting to see if anyone else jumped on it, but I'm pretty sure it's the first BattleTech game, isn't it? Something about a crescent bird?
KAZMAIER
07-27-2010, 05:06 PM
Sorry.Wrong category.
Lance
07-28-2010, 04:54 AM
I'll give you half-point for it Jason, you're on the right track. Full points if you can actually name the game :p
Steph
07-28-2010, 06:37 PM
Is it The Crescent Hawk's Inception?
