For those of you who are frantically searching the recesses of their increasingly creaky brain, check out this link (http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/deadisland/index.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssimilargames&tag=similargames;img;1). It's a first-person shooter based on an island full of zombies. And we're not talking Left 4 Dead's sprinting zombies, we're talking the Romero-style shambling horrors here.

Unfortunately nothing had been heard about this game for the best part of two years, and many were fearing it had been cancelled. It appears that's not the case.
In an interview with G4tv, developers Techland's International Brand manager (no, I don't know what one of those is, either) Blazej Krakowiak told them:
"Unfortunately our agreement with the game’s worldwide publisher imposed a media silence on us. All we are allowed to say is that the game is in development and doing great and that all future updates regarding the game will come directly from the publisher."

Sounds interesting, although it makes me wonder exactly why the publisher has vetoed the developers from talking about the game. Surely they'd be wanting to build hype with Left 4 Dead 2 doing so well?

Anyway, due to the media blackout, very little is known, but here's what we DO know (or at least did the last time the game was seen...):

features a 'multi-layer' damage system. I assume this means skin, bone, sinew etc. ...nice.
Set on a tropical island
'proper' Romero-style zombies - the slow, shambling kind.
Lots of melee weapons - firearms are available, but ammo is rare, so expect a 'survival horror' feel to the game

Obviously, there's no release date yet, but looking forward to seeing something about the game soon. There can never be enough good zombie games. :)

Aye I recall seeing the trailer for this in what I think was '07. Looked good at the time, but then I kinda just forgot about it.

With any luck we'll hear something big soon because I'd love a good survival horror about now.

I miss survival horror of old days like Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3. I'm playing RE4 co-op with my brother and I'm very disappointed. It has neither survival nor horror in it, a mere action shooter (at least that turned out a bit fun)

What's the deal with fast zombies these days? My brother an I couldn't stop laughing when we saw zombies on bikes shouting and doing stunts.. let's hope we hear soon about Dead Island

Why on earth would they not want to hype their game like most game developers do these days? I mean, they need the hype to get the word around and to get peoples interest. If it ever gets released, I'm not sure id be that interested in buying it. We'll see.

I'm ready for some old school survival horror. In RE2 when the licker jumps through the glass in the interrigation room my friend freaked out and pulled the controller out of the playstation. We were playing in the dark with the surround sound cranked up.

I hope this game keeps ammo to a minimum. I have been getting a bit tired of shooters lately. I want strategy!

I agree. I miss a good old survival horror game.
Especially because nearly all the games in the genre that seem to interest me always go to Sony's consoles.

Ah, I remember that... That and the time the dogs jumped through the windows early on in RE1 have got to be up there with some of the best 'jump out of your seat' moments I've come across in gaming.
