Another CG Trailer from E3 2010 - one starts to wonder if there were any gameplay videos at all...

Anyway, Vindictus is an MMO... -no wait!- Vindictus is an upcoming MMO from developers Nexon, who are behind the popular (in Korea, anyway) MMO, Mabinogi. The primary difference between this and many other MMOs is that Vindictus is going to be free-to-play. No monthly fees, no microtransactions, you pay for the game and you're done. It's a refreshing change in the increasingly crowded MMO scene, and might well draw in many gamers who have up to now been hesitant to dip their toe into the MMO universe.
The game runs on a modified version of the Source engine, and features a whole lot of destructibility - armour degrades over time (best make sure you're wearing clean underwear, then!), and more or less anything laying on the floor can be picked up and used to slap your enemies upside the head.

Early playtests have commented on just how smooth the game is, how satisfying the blocking and dodging mechanics are, and the graphics seem pretty impressive for an MMO.

There's probably nothing in here that will tremendously excite you if you're not into RPGs, but for RPG fans, particularly those thinking of heading into the big, bad world of MMOs, this could be one to watch.

Game's expected to hit... in October, of course.

Oh oh oh? Well shoot, that sounds good to me.

F2P MMO? Sign me up. I wish it was Star Wars but... oh well.

the popular (in Korea, anyway) MMO, Mabinogi.

That + the gameplay footage makes this look like another JRPG-styled thing. Which instantly makes me lose all respect.

Sorry, but 14 year old girls that actually turn out to be the leading masculine role just don't do it for me. Nor do the 10 year old girls that are actually girls, just without any sense of self-decency or, for that matter, clothing.

The CG trailer gives me hope that it's going to have a little more substance than your average JRPG, but you're right, the gameplay vid probably doesn't show it in its best light.

The CG trailer made me lower my head in shame for watching it (c'mon, Titan Quest has a better intro than that cut scene).

The words at the beginning of the gameplay trailer took any hope your words had given me and tore them into fleshy little ribbons (though I lol'd at the thought of DA:O's Morrigan being their goddess).

The gameplay itself destroyed my lack of hope and in its place is now a gaping abyss wherein lay those few games that lay beyond the realms of salvation.

... basically, what Arch said, but more bad.

It looks alright, but nothing something I probably ever will play!

sorry for the necro. i was gonna make a new post about this game, but then thought i should prolly look and see if anyone else started a thread already.

from the looks of things, half of yall don't seem too interested. :/ started playing it this past week cause a friend of mine was like "YOU GOTTA TRY THIS." so i did, and it's actually pretty good.

i love the intro sequence when you first start a new character, and the opening credits are pretty epic. the gameplay is indeed pretty nice for an action MMORPG. as was stated before, you can pretty much destroy stuff in the environment around you, and even use pieces of wood, weapons dropped by enemies, stone from a pillar you just smashed, etc. to chuck at or smack the mobs upside the head with. also, when your armor starts breaking, your clothes start to get torn up as was stated in the first post. love the attention to detail. little bits like that do a lot for the game experience, at least for me anyways. oh and having gamepad support earns it more brownie points.

but as with all new MMOs, the game can bee slightly glitchy. Vindictus doesn't have any dedicated servers yet, so if you party up with a group, if the lead has horrible connection, then everyone else in the party will too. the mail system is also kinda glitchy. i tend to have to relog in order to get mail that a friend sends me. the fishing game also kinda sucks. now, i love the idea of having to aim and shoot harpoons at incoming schools of fish. it's a lot more fun than just standing there and waiting for something to bite. the only downside is, the fish only show up like once every 15 mins and it's only like 3-4 of them at a time. if you miss, you have to wait another 15 mins before some more fish swim by. so you're sitting out in a boat with nothing to do while you wait for the notification that some fish are approaching. not cool. the dye system is also crap. you can dye your clothes, but the colors you get are random. so if you want a set of a particular color, you better be prepared to spend some major in-game cash to get all matching pieces.

but yeah. besides all that, i definitely think that this game is worth a try, especially since it's free to play. i mean, come on. if you don't like it, just uninstall it. :P

Don't worry about the necro - it's relevant, so it's all good. :)

I'd forgotten about this a bit, but I might well have a look at it - I'm not generally one for MMOs, but I'm always game to try something new, especially if it's not going to cost me anything. :)

I had a chuckle at that myself. Didn't think it looked that bad to be honest though. Then again, I don't play MMO's.

Never the less, gonna look into this one since it's F2P.

yup yup. and i like how this is an action MMORPG instead of those where you click on the mob and sit there watching your toon fight for 3 mins. if you use the keyboard controls, they take a little while getting used to. frankly, i didn't bother getting used to them. i just used my gamepad, lol.

this is me being a noob.

i must say, that in-game screen recorder works pretty well.
