Lately I've been playing Resident Evil 5, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Halo: ODST, and Splinter Cell: Conviction.
I might get my Modern Warfare 2 fixed this weekend, and then I'll be playing that as well.
I'm usually on past midnight in my time zone (which is the same as central US) all the way to around 5AM. :p
But sometimes I'm also on in the later afternoon/early evening.

How is Sniper: Ghost Warrior?
Alot of reviewers complained about it being pretty buggy and not that good, si I'm wondering.
Yeah, it's buggy, but so far, I've only encountered a single bug I did care about... it drained my health and forced me to heal myself 4 times, just before a part where I really needed that health. The rest are pretty insignificant.
The gameplay is alright, the plot is not that great as I had anticipated, the music is a little on the monotonous side (someone teach their composer some music theory! You can really make a great difference with a roll, break, or small variation every 8 bars...), the graphics aren't that great either... but despite all that, I'm having a lot of fun with it!
I did come across a very big disappointment for me: the sniper rifles. There's only 4, and they're almost the exact same... how the hell can a silenced 7.62x51mm pack the same punch as a .50 cal?
I did like the light effects and the sniper mechanics, though.
I read GameSpot complained about the difficulty... while it's true that the AI can spot you very easily, I don't think it's much harder than Modern Warfare 2 at Hardened or Veteran difficulty... well, at least in the game's Normal difficulty. Haven't played it on Hard yet.
So far, I'm half-way through the single-player campaign, and my only attempt at multiplayer failed because there weren't many people online (then again, it was 4AM).
I paid 40 bucks for the game, and that was alright... maybe if I had payed the full $60 I'd be disillusioned, but as it is, it's good enough.
If I were you, though, I'd probably wait until the price dropped further.
Definitely, Sniper Elite was an overall better game than this.
MyNameDidntFit
07-16-2010, 04:49 AM
From the demo, I'd say: good game. Not exceptional. But good. Sniping mechanics are pretty smooth, but sometimes the AI see you when you can't even see them down a gorram scope which is a touch annoying.

I rented it. It's pretty entertaining from what I've seen, but JBO noted that it got pretty samey towards the end. I'll likely rent it again at some point if I don't find it cheap anywhere.

I'm playing FIFA 10. Not sure if I want to get World Cup as I'm shit at the game.

CemeteryGates

I have FIFA 10 on X360 and World Cup on PS3.
I still like FIFA 09 better. :p
Yeah, that's what I've got on the PS3. Good game, just a shame the heading mechanics are so damn broken.
What do you mean heading mechanics? For heading the ball?
Jason
07-29-2010, 09:18 PM
Yeah. Headers are just so broken - almost every single header is a rubbish floaty one that either goes miles over the bar or straight down the keeper's throat. I've seen a CPU-controlled Wayne Rooney miss a standing header into an open goal from six yards out.
Normally it wouldn't bother me too much, but as my preferred playstyle is to get the ball out wide and cross it in, this understandably has impacted on my performance somewhat.
I play the same way, haven't noticed that though. Good eyes ;)
Jason
07-29-2010, 09:34 PM
Haha, maybe it's just a slight difference in the control scheme that I haven't picked up on then, but I've definitely noticed a HUGE drop in the number of headed goals I've scored in comparison to Fifa '09.
CemeteryGates
07-29-2010, 10:33 PM
Scoring in FIFA 09 in general was much easier. My record win in 09 is 18-0, while my record in FIFA 10 is 9-0, and in the World Cup it's 5-0.
My complaint is that in those three games, I still can't score a free kick goal. I swear it's impossible... I could only do it once in the Practice Arena with Anelka, and I've never been able to score again.
Jason
07-29-2010, 10:47 PM
Ah, now free-kicks are something of a speciality of mine. Anything within 30 yards and I'll probably worry the keeper. Within 26 yards and I'll probably hit the target, and inside 24 yards I'll most likely score. It's just trial and error in the practice arena. EG: For 28-25 yards out, I usually aim just outside of the post I'm aiming for, hold up (towards the goal) on the stick and hold shoot until the bar is a tiny fraction past the halfway mark on the power bar, then as the player runs up to shoot, start holding the stick diagonal up/left or up/right depending on which way I'm trying to curl it.
I've done that Jason...and fail every time haha.

I also picked up Sonic 1. I freaked myself out by involuntarily pushing jump to perform the same sequences as I did some 17/18 years ago when I last played it. Brain stain? Really, it felt very odd indeed as I had zero recollection of what lay ahead until it appeared on screen. And just to make sure that you know I'm odd, at one point I swear I could smell christmas dinner cooking (I got sonic for christmas all those years ago).

The campaigns so far are certainly lacking in comparison to the original and Chaos Rising, the first expansion, but that's due to having six different races embroiled in the same plot and having to have the story work six different ways... still, pretty damn awesome.
Archangel
03-13-2011, 10:19 PM
We're also playing sequentially up from worst campaign to most awesome, which creates a certain difficulty in judging the overall game. The 'Nid campaign is extremely meh, for example, as the sum total of all exposition is "Kill... consume... Nom..." and thus there is roughly zero incentive to press onwards. The Eldar campaign, though, was surprisingly rich in super cereal dialogue and whatnot, and tied in nicely with the previous Dawn of War's stories. And, thus far, the Ork campaign is just marvellous fun.

I was playing Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 that my fav. cousin let my brother borrow. My other cousin Amblessed whos spending Spring Break over at my house wanted to play me and i said no cuz im not good at it. Neither was he so that was a comeback enough for me to play.
He chose Naruto (psh) and I chose Neji. I like his attitude and coolness. The first 2 matches he beat me cuz all he does is get his ass whooped until he can bring out 4 of the nine tails secret power and own me. Afterward I beat him once, then again (almsot not getting hit at all plus he had the 4 tails).....then again.... and then again once more and he quit. -Peter Laughs-

I'm not sure, but I don't think I'd fancy it on split-screen - it's one of those games where you really need to be aware of your surroundings, because enemies are often encountered at a decent range, and don't often take long to kill you while your squad (and particularly your sniper) stands there staring at a bush.
I've only got it rented on 360 at the moment. I'm enjoying it, but I'm not impressed enough to shell out £40 for it. If I see it for £20 or less down the line I'll likely get it, but I can't in good conscience pay full price for a game where I only feel like I'll get the most out of it online with three like-minded friends.

Sorry. The removal of queuing party actions has annoyed the absolute feth out of me the entire time I've been playing.
The combat is certainly more streamlined, but I would not call it superior due to that one monumental cock-up. I'm sure if I took the time to tweak a half-dozen tactics sets for each of my party members then I'd enjoy the combat more, but that shouldn't be necessary.

I'd strongly recommend Origins to anyone who cares about characters or plot in their games. I'm not sure if I'd recommend DA2... it's a decent game, certainly, but it has some major flaws that have dulled the experience considerably--Commander Shephard Syndrome, not pacing the acquisition of sidequests, boring loot and a tiresome camera system are among those that come to the top of my head.
playing thru Crysis 1, not so much for the story, but cos i bought it about a year ago and hadn't even installed it til the other day :P also, 999 (9 persons, 9 doors, 9 hours), pretty compelling plotwise, tho likely not much replay value.....
