Hey All,

What do you get after near 120 hours of Left4Dead gaming, with days of Empire Total War or Fallout 3 thrown in?

Well, you are the first to know that I have just published my book, The Official Zombie Handbook, through Severed Press, so I guess gaming can't be all bad eh?

Here's a link for friends in the US, I have tried to tackle how to survive a zombie outbreak in an environment where there is no or at least very poor access to firearms. Hell, our police here are mostly armed with sticks. Sure it's a situation familiar to most people.

I have tackled the virus that creates the living dead, developed an effective bug out plan & included guidelines on food & water storage...

So, after 3 years of research, here it is....

Amazon US

Amazon UK

I'd really appreciate any support from the community & if you do get yourself a copy, please do post an online review for it.

Here's some blurb for you all :-

Through pioneering research and field work, the Ministry has also just published the Official Zombie Handbook (UK) which is the only government-approved guide you need to make it through a major zombie outbreak in this country, including: -

• Full analysis of the latest scientific information available on the zombie virus, the living dead creatures it creates and most importantly, how to take them down

• What are we facing here – the lighting quick infected, sluggish ghouls, undead dogs, zombie prawns? – your questions answered by the top scientists in the field of zombiology such the Dr Khalid Ahmed

• Everything you need to implement a complete “90 Day Zombie Survival Plan” for you and your family including home fortification, foraging for supplies and surviving a ghoul siege

• Detailed case studies and guidelines on how to battle the living dead, which weapons to use, where to hide out and how to survive in a country dominated by millions of blood thirsty zombies

That looks really good Sean, infact I'm currently reading a zombie book. Well, in saying that I've been trying to read it for the past year and kept getting distracted. It's called 'World War Z'.

It's damn good, I just have the attention span of a flea at the moment apparently.

EDIT: Congrats on publishing, hope it goes well and it shall be on my reading list.

Thanks Steph - yeah - if you could add me to your wish list on amazon or tag my book, that would be really helpful.

I think mine is easier to dip in & out of - saying that World War Z is a great read as well -there are so many good zombie novels out there at the moment...

World War Z was a good book, yeah, but it was far too fractured for my liking. Almost as if Brooks couldn't keep his mind on which story he wanted to tell, and so there was no real grand scheme and, instead, a series of minor plots that were... disappointing when viewed beside the potential of the amount of creative space he built himself.

I'd say that I'd look at buying your book but... well... I have a reading list that is presently somewhere around 60 books long >.>

You know what, it is from an Aussie publisher as well - Severed Press. Get through those 60 books :o)

Seriously, I know what you mean, I also write short stories & I have a stack of them lined up to read as well - mostly older stuff, I like their style.....

I've been slowly but surely reading my way through the Warhammer 40,000 universe with sporadic pieces of King, Koontz and anything else that falls into my lap on the way.

I'll be sure to check it out if I don't have anything on hand next time I need a break from 40k EU works.

Will you be releasing it as a ebook by any chance - only because it makes it easier for me to get it rather than waiting for my next Amazon order (I usually wait until there's 5-6 things I want and grab them at once, which means quite a while)

It does look good though, I'll be happy to get it

Hey Lance,

At the moment, they aren't going to. I actually spoke to some people here in the UK about getting it converted to an audio book but these things always seem to take ages...

So, for now, it's just old-fashioned paperback.

But then again, when the zombies hit & the power goes down, you might be pleased to have a hard copy :o)

No problem, shall try help you out haha. Ah I'm not really sure, World War Z is the first Zombie book I've ever read.

I loved how he showed all the various view points from so many different people.

Yeah I really liked Plague of the Dead by Z A Recht - I have only got the first one but I think there are more in that series.

My is more a handbook than a novel - a what to do if.. :o)

I loved how he showed all the various view points from so many different people.

It was a good idea... but it seemed like it lacked anything tangible to link the different perspectives. It was like a brick wall without mortar.

Ah right, see I haven't finished the book yet, I was under the impression they'd all tie together at the end. I guess not ...

Without spoiling anything, basically they're tied together by two things: they're in the same world and in the same time. Other than that... well, there are vague connections between them at times if I recall correctly, but otherwise it's largely just a collection of short stories that Brooks simply couldn't forge into a novel.

Oh wow I should get this for the Spanish teacher at my school. We're all convinced he has a shotgun in one of his lockers in case of a zombie invasion. Nice book mate, the cover looks brilliant!

Thanks - yeah the cover was a bit of a shocker when I first saw it. It's by an artist called Dave Lange - the publisher handles all of that.

He's done a few more inside, I wanted to more but I'm a big kid.

If I could have a shotgun in my locker I would..

I agree with the comments about World War Z...it is a bit disjointed - depends what you like I suppose...I still like I am Legend...

If preparing for the day when the zombies arrive is ya thing - then you'll love it. Warning - there is a lot of survival content in there - water, food etc - it's not a jokey book...but it is all against the background of an outbreak of the living dead...

See what the other guys think...

Which is what makes it unique, been enjoying it so far. People always (at least those in my circles) discuss their zombie survival plans, and this sort of brings you into a long discussion of it and what strategies might work. Pretty neat.

seantpage
10-01-2010, 09:22 PM
Yeah - I would never be mean about other peoples work - it all has its place - I just approached it from a true survival angle - so you can say, well, it might not be zombies, it might be another kind of virus, public disorder anything...

One thing I noticed about strategies is that people were in such a rush to get somewhere. My research is that you might well stand a better chance staying put, providing you prepare....specially if you live say in a big city or a sprawling urban areas. The fact that you have guns in the US just means you have to prepare in this area - problem is any human bandits are also likely to be armed.

If you enjoy it, please do write a review on amazon - it will really help me.

Cheers

Hey All,
My book The Official Zombie Handbook UK was released back in August this year & has done really well in the UK, reaching No1 in its category on Amazon.

So, I just wanted to stop by & say thanks for the support from the forum. As an author with a small independent publisher, we pretty much do everything ourselves, with no advertising budget or links into big stores. The book has got where it is by zombie-fan power…

Anyway, I appreciate all the encouragement and of course you can pick up a copy on Amazon if you want to.

However, I’m also here to put a call out for any zombie short stories, as I’m starting to post new authors up on the website www.ministryofzombies.com (http://www.ministryofzombies.com/). The story of course remains your property but it might be good exposure – I have a few folks already sending in ongoing stories.

Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before, think you can’t write or spell – this the place for zombie fan stories – just send it in to seantpage@ministryofzombies.com (seantpage@ministryofzombies.com)

Thanks again.

I’m running a competition to say thanks to all the people who’ve supported The Official Zombie Handbook UK, which reached No 1 here in the UK on Amazon in zombies & vampires over Christmas.
I’ve put a fiendish pack together which I hope all zombies fans will like. It includes:-
· A signed copy of The Official Zombie Handbook UK
· A ‘brick yourself scary’ Zombie Handbook t-shirt
· Some signed pages from the original script
· A signed copy of Dead Worlds 7 which includes my mental story about the flying corpse
· A few other bits thrown in like severed fingers that kind of thing
· Some things I found in the loft to bulk up the prize
If you’re interested, there isn’t a naff hard question – all you need to do is email me on the address below & say ‘I want that crappy prize’ or something similar.
And don’t worry; I won’t be selling your email unless something offers me a purse of gold.
Anyway, thanks for all the kind words folks have sent already. Email me at:-
seantpage@ministryofzombies.com (seantpage@ministryofzombies.com) & say ‘I want your crappy’ prize.
Believe me, you wear that t-shirt into work or school & people are going to think you are rock hard. I’ll do the draw at the end of the month.
Cheers
