Didn't see a topic on this game...so decided I should make one.

Well personally, this was definitely an amazing game, and for $35 for the collector's edition, I couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I didn't pass it up too. What an incredible game it was. The story was amazing, the graphics great, and of course the new kill lock-on system was incredible. Overall, an amazing game to add to the Splinter Cell line.

I loved it, but as a Splinter Cell game it still feels a bit weird to me. I guess I just have a strong association of the name and memories of sneaking past guards, hacking computers, grabbing someone for interrogation rather than as a human shield before entering a room and blasting half a dozen guys. Like I said, though, I love it. :)

I've been meaning to go through the Co-Op story mode, but everyone I've met online is kind of reckless. :p

I'm still looking to rent this rather than buy it, as most of the reviews I've read have indicated that it's a touch on the short side, and I'm reluctant to pay £30+ for a 6-8 hour game, even if the multiplayer does look fun.

Yeah it is a real real short game Jason. But it gets better with co-op. It's definitely a game to have in your collection if you like collecting good games.

As to Cemetery, I completely agree. I have played all the other Splinter Cells, like Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory, and this one didn't feel anything like a regular Splinter Cell game. But I still loved it as I could be my regular reckless self and blow everything up :D

Yeah, I think I beat it in 5 hours, and I was a bit slow. :p
The multiplayer is great, though! But I'd recommend renting first.

I wasn't too impressed. The new killing feature was the only good thing that I can think of. But it just didn't feel like a SC game. No swimming under the ice and grabbing someone underwater. The sneaking is what I love about SC. I wish there had been lock picking etc.

Yeah, but the game follows the story you know? They have his daughter and he gets mad and is on a vengeance trip. He doesn't care who knows or how they know. He wants to get his daughter and he'll do anything to get her back. That's why the gameplay was how it was.

I actually started this when I got it a few weeks ago - got as far as the just past the prologue (where you have to sneak in to the building) and got annoyed when I kept dying. Funnily enough, I was trying to be as sneaky as possible -.-

I saw this for £17 in our local store the other day. I still couldn't bring myself to pay for it knowing that the campaign is so short. Perhaps I'm getting tight in my old age. :-/

Yeah I know :) But I still missed the old sneaking and such! And I think it was a bad storyline. I had the feeling that she really is not dead when they first said it in a previous game. And that just means it wasn't very clever :D They should have made her be a bad guy or something

True. I was going to buy the Limited Edition Double Agent today for $13 at GameStop. Damn I should have.

I think Sam Fisher's daughter being a villain would be about the silliest concept in any SC game to date, personally.

A few months ago I finally got myself a 360. It was the last of the triumvirate (as I like to call the 3 systems) for me. After selling my old house I had some extra dough so I finally convinced the wife to let me get it. I bought the elite bundle with this game. I really enjoyed it although I will agree that generally this would not be a game I would have purchased. The story is just way too short. I finished it in a about 8 hours or so. I don't do any co-op with it, but I loved the mechanics, graphics, story etc. Definitely not a traditional SC game, but still a pretty good one for rent if you have a free weekend.

I wish it was longer :(

Yeah. I just beat the co-op story the other day. The missions are long... about an hour each, but they're only 4. =/

You add the SP Campaign to the Co-Op Campaign and you have a game longer than others, and generally better than others too.

If you don't have any friends to play it with, though, I can see how someone might be very much disappointed.

Yeah, but added for me it was only 10 hours or so. Longer that most shooters for me, but I wish it was longer still.
On the plus side, it's so damn fun playing co-op that playing Hunter or other modes keeps me going back to it.

You guys all seem to say it's different from the regular Splinter Cell games, but how different?

I've never really been that into the stealth/sneaking games like Splinter Cell and Hitman, I think it's because I always want to tackle it like an FPS and just run through the level killing everyone in sight

It's more like a tactical stealth-based shooter, as opposed to the other games in the series which are are just stealth-based. You still need to (Well, really should if you want to avoid lots of bullets) stick to the shadows a fair bit, but no longer do you stick to them and sneak past your enemies, leaving their necks unbroken and heads un-shot. Now you use the shadows as a good means to destroy all life before you, in fun and awesome ways.

There are also some points in time where you use no stealth at all. One mission you get an AK-47 and are told to go shoot a bunch of middle-eastern folk, with virtually no stealth at all.

I have to agree with what CemeteryGates said up there^

It's a really good game, but for those expecting a Vanilla Splinter Cell experience you won't find it with this one. It just doesn't have the same concept. There was nothing quite as thrilling and nerve racking in the first Splinter Cell games when you would enter a room full of 7 guys, without fifth freedom, and you had to get through them all. Now it's just like, oh look another 7 guys. Pew, pew, pew. I win.

And, by that logic, the originals were just like "oh, 7 guys *turn to arbitrary pipe/duct* I win" ;)

I swear to GOD i've had this discussion on here. >_>
I liked Conviction, it was fun and I felt really badass at times. It wasn't legendary though, it wasn't that groundbreaking or memorable either. It didn't leave me caring whether Conviction 2 comes out or not.

I prefer the originals, they were a breath of fresh air (though air that got stale and smelled like farts by Double Agent) in the gaming market. They weren't games for everyone and a lot of people complain about how slow paced it was. I liked the gameplay a lot, and the crawling pace of the game. For example, I thought that the super fast climbing and shimmying was very anti-climactic in Conviction.

The storyline and storytelling blew the originals out of the water though. The plot would twist here or there, the climax was HEART PUMPING and the game was just full of "fuck yeah"s and "yes I DID JUST DO THAT". The EMP thing was pretty lolwut but I did get into the story. Oh, and I guess I was kinda thrown off by the fact that Fisher got plastic surgery or something.

Having said all that, I don't think Conviction was a bad thing. I was really looking forward to a Chaos Theory 2.0 and was disappointed when found out I wasn't getting it. I enjoyed what I got. I think that Splinter Cell the way it started needs to take a break. I'd rather see a Conviction than another Double Agent or worse. Maybe in another five to ten years well see a return to the original formula in some shape or form. Maybe a remake in whatever touch sensitive motion controlled three dee holographic console we'll be playing.

I only NOW am starting Conviction, and am enjoying it. I'm a big fan of the original SC and Chaos Theory.

I'm also a big fan of not fixing what's not borked. I'm one of those folks that is perfectly content to play a sequel that tweaks the system but doesn't remake it in another image. Tomb Raider comes to mind-- major identity crisis until Crystal Dynamics got it back on track.

I'm also one of those folks that appreciates a good story BUT is willing/able to tune it out on a moment's notice and get lost in my own menagerie. It's too early for me to tell if the story feels hamfisted or just so, but in any case, the opportunity to slink in the shadows and deliver the what-for from above is always welcome.

That said-- the presentation is pretty polished. Ubisoft doesn't get enough credit for streamlining the user experience. That seems to go unmentioned in most reviews (and for Assassin's Creed, etc).
