Hi all, thought I'd make an introductory thread.
I'm new here as you can see and I'm looking forward to becoming part of this little community you have going on here. So here's a little about me.
My name's Ali, I'm Scottish and I'm 19 years old. At the moment I'm doing a bachelors in Japanese and Business Studies which is quite tough and time consuming so I don't get much time to play games and hence, I don't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer but It is my favourite hobby.
I love gaming, have done for years, first console was a megadrive and then an N64, I was quite loyal to Nintendo till I got my Xbox and then Xbox 360, have never owned any sony playstation or nintendo wii though if I had the money, I'd have all three!
Not big on PC gaming because for one, I have a laptop and i find it difficult to game on and secondly, my computer doesn't have high enough specs to play any games properly!
Feel free to message me for a chat and I look forward to participating in the forums!

Welcome Ali - glad to have you on board here! If you need anything at all, feel free to give me or any of the staff a shout.
So what's your favourite game of all time then?

Thanks Jason. A very warm welcome indeed!
That is a tough question but I think it has to be
The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time on the old N64, I miss this game a lot! More importantly though, I miss being able to justify spending hours and hours on a console playing a video game! I find it increasingly difficult to do so nowadays.
What about yourself?

Ack. I was wondering this the other day. There are just so many candidates. Heavy Rain has got to be up there just for how amazingly absorbing and engaging it was. I picked it up on Thursday evening, and didn't put it down until about 5am Friday morning, simply because I just lost track of time.
I think for how amazed I was by a game at the time and how much I enjoyed playing it, it'd have to be either the original Deus Ex or Final Fantasy VII. Too tough to call between the two.

I must admit, just seeing the trailer for Heavy Rain almost drove me to go out and buy a PS3!
I talked myself out of it though because I'm a poor student.

Ah... beg, borrow or steal, if you have to. It's one of those games that really makes you re-think the way you look at games and what gaming can produce. I was already pretty hyped up for it several months before it was released, but it met my expectations massively.

Welcome to our humble community, Ali. :D
I'm with Jason. Heavy Rain is quite an experience!
What are some games you play on your 360?
And what was your favorite game on the original Xbox? :)

Hi, Daggers.
You said your favorite game is Ocarina of Time. Have you played the older Zelda game, A Link To The Past for the Super Nintendo? I ask because, if it were not for that game, Ocarina of Time would be my favorite.
Also, since you say you are playing FFXIII, how do you like it so far? I was not too fond of it, though I do like the FF franchise, and my favorite is FFX.

At the moment...or rather, recently. I've been playing Final Fantasy 13, The Godfather 2 and Fifa 09, online I tend to play Call of Duty MW2 or Halo 3 (because I'm cool and original that way).
But I'm not really a huge gamer, I have to do quite a lot of studying for my course so I barely get time to play the xbox these days. I really want to get Crackdown 2 and I need to get on Assassins Creed 2.
There's also a bunch of games i've played and finished before that I need to go back and do again, because I'm quite into achievements but I've lost most of mine through not being able to recover my old gamertag when I got a new 360.
My favourite game on the original Xbox was quite possibly XIII, such a great game, I was also a big fan of Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2!

Hi Hyperion, I never played A Link to the Past on the SNES, although I like retro consoles and I own both a NES and a SNES I kind of missed the early Nintendo era as a child (born 1990). Did they not bring out A Link to the Past on the original Gameboy though?
With FFXIII, I'll be honest I stopped playing after a week of owning it because I had exams to study for, and right now it's the summer holidays and I'm back home but all my stuff is in storage till September so until then I can't get on my xbox :(
I've never really been into the FF series before but everyone was raving about this game so I thought I'd give it a go, the graphics I thought were outstanding (but I knew to expect this) but the gameplay itself I found quite slow and repetitive.
I think I reached chapter 4 or before I stopped playing, I've been told if I'd carried on a little further I'd have probably started enjoying it a lot more because apparantely it starts getting better

Oh it does get better (I'm on chapter 7 or 8, I think), but I'm in the same situation as you. FFXIII is my first Final Fantasy. I've been looking into the possibility of getting VII and VIII for the PS3.
Well, if you ever wanna have a go at MW2 or FIFA 09 online, I'm up for it. :p
Not great at either game, but I not absolutely terrible. :D
Did you ever play Majora's Mask on the N64?
I'm one of those those few heretics who never owned Ocarina of Time (though I did borrow it and beat it a few times), but while at first I didn't like it much not considering it canonical, I later found Majora's Mask to be an amazing game indeed.

Sure I'd love to have a game on xbox live, I'm rubbish aswell so don't worry :P
It'll be another 6 weeks or so before I can get on though as that's when I get back to Uni.
I had Majora's Mask aswell but as great as it was I still prefer the Ocarina of Time, it was just too good.
I had both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on the Gamecube. Have you played them? Wind Waker was ok but it's probably my least favourite of all the Zelda games I've played, Twilight Princess I quite enjoyed. I also really liked the Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons games they brought out for the GBC.
My Gamertag is in my profile btw so feel free to add me at any time.

Yeah, though I wonder how much they've changed on it. Even so, if you could get your hands on it, I recommend you do so. More importantly, though

Yeah, I grew bored of the gameplay quicker than any FF. The backgrounds were so amazing at times that I would stop and stare, but I remember the words of one reviewer who called this game a museum, since once you try to deviate from the path you hit the walls. Along those lines, I remember writing the following in a short comment to a review of the game at Amazon:
I suppose the reason the game gets such flak for linearity is that the emphasis on a straight path is more extreme for most of the game. FFX offsets the impression of linearity by the wideness of many areas (e.g., Sanubia and, to a much lesser extent, the Thunder Plains), and the many towns that you come across which don't require you to fight. The peaceful towns make it less likely for the player to feel that the game is really one continuous dungeon, and their absence helps instill the impression that the game is extremely linear. To put this another way, people may be exaggerating how different FFXIII is compared to others of its franchise in regards to "linearity," but this common complaint is not a complete fabrication.
I left out the rest of what I said (http://theinfinityprogram.com/showthread.php?t=3609&highlight=Final+Fantasy) since I don't want to spoil the game for you.
I think I reached chapter 4 or before I stopped playing, I've been told if I'd carried on a little further I'd have probably started enjoying it a lot more because apparantely it starts getting better
Well, I definitely felt the best of the game was in the later chapters, but you shouldn't have to wait that long.

Haha! Yeah I might see if I can pick up a copy. I have been toying with the idea of bringing all my retro consoles with me to my flat but for now they are nestled snuggly in my cupboard at home :(
I'll have a look when I get back to uni, there's a new independant retro gaming/manga store place opened up not far from where I live so I'll have a look if they have a copy. Failing that, I will venture onto fleabay for it.

Cheers for the input on FFXIII, I definitely will get back onto it when I can and hopefully I'll find it a bit more enjoyable as I carry on with it. There's a few other games I really want to play through though so It may take a backseat...

Yeah, of course Ocarina of Time is better than Majora's Mask!... I just often see the latter is ignored in favor of the former, when myself, I'd rather have both, hahaha. :D
I had Wind Waker. Didn't like the whole catoonish graphics, but that aside, it was a great game.
To this day, I'm still constantly on the hunt for a GameCube copy of Twilight Princess, but either it's a mythologyical relic, or I find it even more expensive than current-gen games.
Definitely, my country is not a good place to shop for video-games. :p
Anyway; sure, I'll add you later today. :)
I'm having problems with my internet connection at the moment that'll take me a couple of weeks to sort out, so no hurry on my side either. :p

No problem, and yeah they released Twilight Princess on both GC and Wii and I picked up a GC copy (pretty much just before they stopped stocking them in my local GAME store).
I sold it on once I completed it but I kind of wish I hadn't now, would love to play it again and don't really want to play it a Wii (let alone BUY a Wii).

Hey :) Thanks
It is really difficult but only because you have to learn all the Kanji characters (Some 2000!) The grammar and the language itself is actually fairly straightforward compared to some more complex European languages.

Heh, nice to meet you, I'm from Stirling myself.
Whereabouts in the Netherlands? I lived there when I was a kid for 7 years in a town called Goerinchem which you'll probably not have heard of unless you live near Rotterdam :P
