Well, the thread title says most of it for me, but for those of you who came expecting a story...
When I started MG, I knew very little about administering forums. The fact is, this is still true - every day that goes by, I learn something new. However, one area I'm definitely lacking in is technical knowledge. I've got by so far mainly by muddling through, learning bits and pieces as I go, and relying on the kindness and knowledge of others to tell me where I'm going wrong.
However, now MG is reaching the point where 'muddling through' is no longer an option. We're averaging nearly 2000 posts a month, and that's only going to go up if we keep getting members of the quality we have so far. So in a chance conversation with Graeme on MSN, I asked him if he'd be interested in putting his extensive coding knowledge to use on MG, in return for the personal details and bank account numbers of our members. He accepted. :p
Anyway, Graeme is going to be taking on an Admin role here at MG, and will be responsible for making and implementing all kinds of awesome changes to the way this site works and runs.
He's already done sterling work tweaking the dropdown menus to include the 'Now Playing' details, and hopefully that's just the tip of the iceberg.
So, story concluded - welcome to the MG staff, Graeme!

Congrats Graeme! I've only been here a few days but I can see from your posts that you deserve it :D

Ah, good, us Aussie bastards are still in charge. You had me worried for a moment.
And congratulations to you, Mr Graeme. I never could be bothered learning any of that vBulletin (or pretty much any web-based) coding/modifying/shenanigans shindig thingie. Just stick to my Visual Studio, where it's warm and safe. So kudos to you on braving the frozen northlands of the Web, sah.
Kudos indeed.
Just try not to break things. I did manage to do that when I had the powah over at TRF. Killed spam for a whole few days I did. All of it. The prune function didn't wanna give me a description of what it did, or a cancel button. Good times.

What Jason said (or rather, expressed)!
But nah, I know my way around vBulletin, even so that you can blindfold me without having me stumble upon something strange! And not to mention, rule #1: always make backups of whatever you're doing. That's, at least, what I do; simply copypaste in Notepad++ and save a backup on my computer of each template. ;)
And yeah, thanks.

I am much too fond of mods. It is to the point that removing a mod sometimes breaks the layout. I am so silly. Good thing I back up each time.

But do note that the more plug-ins you install, the chance of your board becoming more vulnerable to exploits, is much higher. I always, personally, try to keep the amount of plug-ins to a minimum; not only for said reason, but also to maintain a general, good overview.

It is a most wise idea to be conservative with your use of plug-ins, or to be like Shawn Hogan of Digital Point by only adding plug-ins that you made.
That said, I keep up the more foolish practice with knowledge of the risks.

Sir, I really would not be so confident of that. I can assure you that such hubris is misplaced ;)
