Welcome to World War Mature Gamers, the 3rd round in the Neptune's Pride series.

If you're up for the game officially, sign up here and give your thoughts on the game set up.

Personally I'd like to see a no-holds-barred war with a gentlemen's agreement to no alliances and after a set period of time (say, 5-10 days, whatever we decide) we all attack each other at once

This should be a fast and furious game, so I'm thinking we could up everything (tech, industry, income) to maximum and then just go for it.

Thoughts?

Count me in. K'Var has some mighty stompin' to be doing.

Yeah, all settings to high so's we all get crazy-ridonkulous amounts of resources, cash and all things sweet, all the better fer killin'.

Shoot for anonymity again you reckon?

No point in anonymity in this sort of warfare, really now, is there?

Needless to say, I'm in this like Saxton Hale to a punch-up.

How did the anonymous set up work out last time, by the way?

Jason

Difficult to tell. I was curbstomped before I really got to do any proper wheeling and dealing. I only identified one player for sure, and that's because I recognised NonSequitur's name from one of his Urban Dead characters.

By end game we could figure out who most folks were. Early-to-mid game it was pretty swell though.

I'm down, I think. I still am waiting on someone to link me to an explanation or explain this whole process to me. Only thing I know is that it's a game. x]

Too late to read right now I'm gonna' head to bed, but thank you, I had a quick glance and it seems really fun.

I pretty much gathered who-was-who but I didn't know for sure until the end. But as MNDF has said, I get the short straw each time because the the game creator is marked.

But yeah, no point of being anonymous this time, since we're all attack everyone

So as for days, I think 5 should be enough?

I joined up after I read those rules, and I'm in a game currently. It's a game that is meant to be for new players so they can learn how to play. This game could really use an in-game tutorial as opposed to keep switching back to their home page. Regardless, It's still really confusing and is going to take me a while to get used to it.

That said, I don't suppose we could have the next MG match with Alliances allowed? I think someone else is also joining who hasn't played before, it would be good if we could ally up with you veterans or at least guys that know how to play, just so we can be taught the ropes a little bit.

No mercy, no respite.

The game really is not hard to master, anyway. My first time playing put me next to all these folks who'd played before, and I came second place. You're playing a game now, which means you already have more experience than I did.

I will remember this!

....

You think there are alliances when we have alliances enabled.

Alliances in NP basically = "I get to see where all your shit is before I stab you in the back"

I am foiled!

It's all very overwhelming at first, but if you dive in and get your hands dirty by experimenting (as you're doing), it's actually pretty simple. :)

And even when you don't have alliances enabled, much of the same thing happens anyway. :)

I wouldn't know. The only official Alliance I've managed in two games was with MNDF, and I'm amazed that lasted as long as it did, to be quite honest. If ever you wanted a cast-iron certainty in life, it's death, taxes, Status Quo and MNDF and me going for each others' throats at the first available opportunity.

So far I count 6

Non are you playing again this around? I'd really like to get a few more this round - 8-9 preferably.

Nonsequitur

I only identified one player for sure, and that's because I recognised NonSequitur's name from one of his Urban Dead characters.

I had no idea you knew that name. How is the game going by the way? I would have liked to have joined but I've been busy and using random hot spots until I can grab a new cable modem.

Y'know, we should do this again some time.

I would... I would be interested. We still have some credits left don't we?

I'll look into this - Lance bought the credits, and seeing as he's missing presumed really drunk, we'll need to get some more (not that this will be an issue).
I'll wait a week or two for the holiday period to pass, and then we'll look at getting this ball rolling again.

Archangel

Cheerio then, old chap.

We've collected many newcomers over the past months, so perhaps we may be able to have ourselves an even larger game?

And while we're discussing it in here, what sort of game do we all want to go for this time? The anonymity thing was pretty good, though many of us were somewhat transparent and could be deduced by others at some point in the game. With new blood, it's still viable, though.
Or we can go for the quick-resources route, wherein we just build epic empires before engaging in all-out warfare.
So on, so forth. So yeah, name your game mode of choice.

Jason
12-30-2010, 02:44 AM
The anonymity thing was fun, and I hugely enjoyed roleplaying K'Var to the point where I'm actually a little disappointed I let the cat out of the bag so I won't be able to repeat it, so I'm game for that again if the others are.
My inclination would be to go for fewer stars and more resources so that even a couple of planets changing hands can mean a fairly hefty shift in the balance of power - the previous games tended to take a while to get to the business end of things while everyone stood around at the edges waiting for someone to make the first move, so speeding up that process a little is good as far as I'm concerned.

Stop prefixing words with judo, dammit. It doesn't even.

Anyway, yuss, that sounds rather marvellous. Them low-resource stars were a right pain to do anything with asides from using them as a means to get closer to your enemy's main stars.
That sparks a thought, mind; is it possible to change the spacing between stars, or is it just "you have galaxy that is small, medium or large, and it has 'x' stars in it"? If possible, increasing the distance between stars by some degree could make for some more interesting battle-planning--that is, having to take staging points to continue any form of invasion against an enemy, as opposed to simply being able to launch and hit any one of their planets with fleet range at level 5.

Would also slow down the combat so the attackee can plan some epic counter-maneuvres or the like. Just a thought.

As far as I can tell (Lance used to set up games) you simply get a choice of map size and number of stars when it comes to setup, but I'm not completely sure. I'll have a look at some point before we start and confirm that.
