Yep, it's true. Torrent sites are currently showing a 6.09GB file marked as the full, region-free version of Left 4 Dead 2. Whether this is linked to the fact that several Gamestop stores in New Jersey broke street date and sold L4D2 early is unclear at this point, but it will no doubt be a blow to Microsoft, coming so soon after a major operation to weed out pirates.

I seriously hope that they ban another 2 million xbox live accounts. Serves them right for doing so. Valve is a great game developer, one which has always been loyal to their fans, although they have been known to be sloppy with release dates, they do not deserve this.

I assume it's been cracked from a review copy or an internal version, which makes me wonder - why have developers not found a way of putting some kind of digital watermark in each version they send out so that they have some way of at least tracing the leak back to its source? I can't imagine that's hard to implement...

Who knows, they might start doing that. I remember how quick they were when they found out that someone hacked and stole most of their source code for HL2, although they did get some major help from the community.

I'm sure heads will roll after this leak.

Haha, I guess this explains how my local LAN house got it before it was released... damn.
