I just did some fishing around her and didn't see anything at all about League of Legends. Does anyone here play the game? I've been playing off and on for a little while and the game is a blast once you start figuring out the strategies involved. The first few games I just ran wild and got slaughtered but I'm actually starting to figure things out and that makes a huge difference to your survival rate. Anyway just thought I would ask. Also if you do play what are your favorite champions?

Its a free 2 play multiplayer game that was originally inspired by a Warcraft III mod. Basically you've got two teams of champions that form teams of 3 or 5 players. Your goal is to defend your base will destroying your opponents. There are tons of different champion types that fit different play styles. Like tanks, assassins, fighters, etc. and as the battle progresses your champion gains levels and gets access to more powerfull abilities.

In addition to the champions your base spawns minions which are weak grunt troops that fill a support role for the champions. You don't have any control over them but smart players always consider what the minions are doing and where they are.

If you don't have a team then you can log into solo games where you are matched up with other players of similar level. If you do organize a team then you can go out together and take on other teams. I don't have a team myself so my games are always pickup.

Ah, the spin-off from DotA. To be honest, I'm waiting for Valve's take on the mod that they're developing alongside the current bloke who's 'running' (working on, would perhaps be a better term) the original.

I'll have to look this one up to confirm, but I think there may be legal wrangles over that at the moment. If I recall correctly, it's only over the name, but I can't be sure.

I didn't know that Valve was working on anything. Do you have any details on that?

Anyway I would still recommend giving it a try as it costs you nothing but some hard drive space.

http://www.mature-gamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17679 covers the initial announcement - I'll see if I can dig some more up tomorrow. :)

Very little has been announced on it since then, as far as I know (though I haven't been following it too closely).

As for the legal debacle, that was entirely confined to some inanities between Valve, Blizzard and whoever made League of Legends--Valve copyrighting DotA, because they were making a game called that, Blizzard because it is a mod of their game and they wanted some pie, and the other folks because they were jealous (and something about it 'not being in the spirit of things' to copyright the title of a community mod. As far as I am aware there are no lasting repercussions to this.

Just started playing this a few days ago and it is awshum! Kinda sucks that you have to buy all the new characters... and there's quite a few. Well all should form a team and dominate! I call Cassiopeia!

i just started playing this today. quite fun.

as far as buying the characters goes, at least you don't have to pay real money for it. you can just save up influence points and use them. i also like how they have the 10 free chars a week. lets you try out multiple ones so you can see if you enjoy using them or not.

i haven't played that much of the game yet, so i can't say much about it. i do enjoy what i have played so far though.
