Well, every other two-bit gaming site seems to be doing it, so why can't we? :p

I'll handle the nominations, you guys handle the voting. Feel free to abuse me because I've missed your favourite game off the list, by the way. :p

Voting runs for one week. I'll be contacting the publishers and developers to let them know they've won such a prestigious award. :D

The nominees are:

Assassin's Creed II
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Borderlands
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Left 4 Dead 2
Plants Vs Zombies
Street Fighter IV
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Anyway, get voting - I'm entirely sure that I've missed at least one bona fide classic, but such is life. I can always edit it in. :P

Had to go with Assassin's Creed II even though I'm not done with it. There are some in that list I haven't played, to be fair, so I had to go with what I've seen. AC2 is far and away better than the 1st, and I loved the first! There are so many things they did in AC2 to keep people with different play styles interested, be it collectors, hack/slashers, puzzlers and tacticians. I keep finding things in the game that surprise me. They took a great deal of care incorporating real-world history an important part of the game whether it be in the art you can collect, the famous buildings of the time, the influential people, etcetera.

All of those games were great candidates but Left 4 Dead 2 rocked the house with its excellent team based game play. I have never had so many "oh ****" moments that I ended up talking about later with my friends.

I'm really torn here. There's at least three on here that I'd really LOVE to give my vote to. I think I'm going to sleep on it before making my final decision.

I was torn as anything between Left 4 Dead 2 and Uncharted 2, with a very honourable mention for Plants Vs Zombies. In the end I had to go for Uncharted, simply because I couldn't put the game down for about a week, despite clearing it twice in that time. Fantastic game.

I was tempted to pick up Uncharted2 last night but I have so many games I have to finish first. It's getting massively favorable reviews on metacritic which makes resisting the game that much harder.

Doooooo it. If you've played the first one, it's just like that, except about ten times better. If you've not played the first one, play it!

Went Assassins Creed II. Not only is it highly enjoyable it also managed to greatly improve on the first AC even though it was already a great game.

Modern Warfare 2.

Out of the ones I've played on that list, it's the one I've spent the most hours on. Second choice would be Assassin's Creed II.

Fine but when the zompocolypse happens you are all going to wish you had played more L4D2.

Right, so it looks like Assassin's Creed II is the Mature-Gamers.com GOTY for 2009! I'll drop the guys at Ubisoft Montreal an email and let them know they've won such a prestigious award. ;)
