For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nintendo's newest innovation, the 'super guide' is basically a hints system +1. When players are stuck on a particular section of the game, they will have the option to bring up a video walkthrough of the section they're on in order to help them through.
It's included in the upcoming release New Super Mario Brothers Wii, but SMG2 designer Shigeru Miyamoto was non-committal when asked whether the feature would be present in the latest installment of the Wii's flagship franchise:
Well, as far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it's going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell."
"In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now."
Thoughts on this?
Personally, I'm not sure if I like it - I always found half the satisfaction in Platform games was struggling for what felt like days to reach that elusive ledge or treasure chest before finally figuring it out. I'm pretty sure that something like the Super Guide would almost rob you of that satisfaction - it's like admitting that the level designers beat you.
