Well, I'm currently on vacations in Austin, Texas and the PS3 is much, much cheaper here than it is back in Mexico, so I thought "why not?" :D
But having a brand new console, I'll also need some new games to play on it. So far, I've picked up Gran Turismo 5 and Call of Duty: World At War.
My budget is still about $150 USD, and I'm looking at getting the Uncharted games, the Resistance games, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and/or Demon's Souls.
Are any of those as good as they look? Are there any other options I overlooked?
EDIT: Hmm... and is it true I can't play PS2 games on PS3?

Unfortunately, yes. Only the very early versions of the PS3 were backwards compatible.
As for the games, I'd recommend both the Uncharted games, I wasn't a big fan of the Resistance games, but others were, and they generally reviewed well. Demon's Souls is getting very well reviewed, but is widely regarded to be hard. Not just a bit tough, I mean balls-in-a-vice-that's-stuck-on-'tighten' hard. Although if that's your thing, it's supposed to be excellent.
I have Killzone 2 and I'm not especially impressed, but as I've said before, I'm a huge FPS snob, and it's averaging about 91 on metacritic...
Metal Gear Solid 4 is well worth a look, particularly if you've played the other ones. If not, see if you can pick 'em up cheap.

But I believe the other Metal Gear games are only for PS2? If so, then I couldn't get them. =/
If Demon's Souls is as hard as Ninja Gaiden, I'm probably not very interested. If it's slightly more civilized, I'm likely picking it up. I guess I'll have to ask at the store.
So far I haven't found the first Uncharted, but I guess I'm gonna end up getting those.

I guess it's difficult to compare the two accurately, as Ninja Gaiden is a balls-out all-action slasher (I think, I've never actually played it, come to think of it...), and Demon's Souls is an RPG. But a lot of people have commented on just how tough it is.
The first Uncharted has been on Platinum for some time now, so you should be able to pick it up pretty cheap if you shop around.
I only recently started using my PS3 so I can only suggest Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Modern Warfare 2. I played Resistance and if you can find it cheap then it might be worth a purchase. Hop on the PSN and check out the PSone titles and the mini games. From the PSN I have 1942 Joint Strike, Street Fighter Alpha, Mega Man 9 and Warhawk. Metal Gear Solid is available on the US PSN store but I have not picked it up yet. Dragon Age is another good pick.

If you're a fan of shooters, I'd recommend holding fire for about two weeks until MAG hits - it's multiplayer-only, but it can have up to 256-player battles, and the opinions of those that have played the beta are that it's looking pretty good.

I already have Modern Warfare 2 on 360, though. Although playing online for free is tempting as I don't have Xbox Live, but then it'd be cheaper to get that and a huge ethernet cable than to start re-buying games for PS3. :p
I'll definitely get on PSN as soon as I get back to Mexico, though. :D
As for MAG, I'll probably end up buying it soon after it comes out, but it'll have to be at a higher price back in Mexico, because I'm heading back home on the 2nd.
A bit off-topic, but that's one thing I love about visiting the US -- the video-game shopping. Games cost like $60 USD new. In Mexico, they cost about about $1,200 MXN in Mexico, with the US dollar currently at about $13.something MXN, that's about $90-something USD for a new game! Old ones stay at a somewhat similar price and used ones are nearly in unplayable conditions for half the price or more. So every time I come to the US, I spend no less than $200 USD on games. I'm a profitable tourist. :D
I guess our games are fairly cheap. $50-$60 has been the standard price of games for a long time. If you go on Amazon or wait for sells then most games can be found for around $40-$45.
You should check out the PSN exclusive "Shooter". 2D spaceship shooter, easy dual joystiq control/aiming setup. Pretty addictive if you like racing against your own times.
