The winners are announced this afternoon, with the usual suspects (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, World of Warcraft and so on) all looking like favourites for the awards.

However, opinion is a wonderful thing, so you tell us - what was the best game released between May '08 and May '09?

Personally, it's Fallout 3 for me. Granted, Bethseda had a well-known license to fall back on, but with that license came some big expectations, and they delivered on them. It's huge, free-flowing, intelligent, beautiful, and it allows you the freedom to be exactly who you want to be.

Grand Theft Auto IV will probably scoop the awards, which disappoints me hugely, as I felt it was a real let-down this time around. Unfortunately, I seem to be in the minority with that opinion, as it got its backside well and truly kissed by critics again.

Some excellent decisions in there, mixed with some mystifying ones.

I don't mind admitting I had to google Jagex to find out who the hell they were - they're the developers behind MMORPG Runescape, if you were wondering. I can't help but feel that perhaps Bethseda would feel somewhat aggrieved at that decision, seeing as Fallout 3 was a massive hit on all three platforms it launched on.

Also, as I understand the 'one to watch' award is for games released after May 2009 (hence missing the qualifying period), so the decision to award it to a game that hasn't even been released yet is quite simply baffling. I wonder how much Activision had to pay them for that one? :naughty:
