I was actually going to ask about Borderlands. I don't know very much about it, but it sounds intriguing.

My buddies and I like to play coop with us against AI. We have no interest in public games and all the riff raff that goes along with them.

Are you guys saying that if me and my buddies are playing cooperatively, and we quit for the night and want to pick up again where we left off, the servers will probably not allow that?

And you can't host your own dedicated server, either over the Internet or over a LAN?

No no no, you can make your own server - just not a dedicated one meaning that you dedicated an entire computer to doing THAT alone. You can still be in your own little box with all your friends.

Im not sure about the first question, I thought that the game works by having the host be the main "player" and everybody who joins gets to be one of his helpers but in HIS world. That means even if you complete the game with a friend, one of you will still be on mission one in your "home" save.

I dont actually own the game though, so I may be speaking out of my buttocks.

My understanding is that if you have 4 people playing co-op from level 1, you all achieve the missions as you complete them. The only time you are ineligible for missions and so on is if you join a party who are considerably further ahead in the game than you. You'll still gain XP, but the missions won't show as 'completed' for your character.

Iggy, having played the PS3 version and assuming that it's similar to the PC version, I have to say Borderlands is actually pretty good fun - it's definitely more entertaining the more of you there are.

Oh, and to answer your question directly - you CAN finish wherever you like and pick up from where you left off. You all play the 'host' storyline, so if you're only playing when you're all together, you all advance at the same time and from the point where you left off last.

Hope that explains it - it's difficult to put into words, but it does work.

Well, I often host a server for WaW Nazi Zombies, and it works OK on my machine.

As long as I can save our progress, so next time we can pick up where we left off, I suppose that would be OK. That DOES assume that the same player has to host every time, right?

Not necessarily. As it always plays the 'host' storyline, if you're all at the same point in the storyline because you're playing together, it doesn't really matter who hosts. :)

Cool. That helps.

Is it still 60 bucks?

Looks about that. I think Steam do a 4-pack deal though.

Maybe you could move this stuff to a Borderlands thread. We don't want any hijackings around here...:hammer:

Haha, you know... I was just thinking that. :p

Wait! Wait!

That's my job.

Edit: Damnit, right as I post.

Well, I figure I'll come along and clear this all up being on my second playthrough of the PC version.

Say you and Gary start playing together from the beginning and then stop wherever. BOTH of your characters' save files will be exactly the same (well, other than being different characters, obviously).

If you complete a mission without Gary, however, the next time you join up it will tell Gary he is ineligible to do that quest. If said quest is a main plot quest it will tell Gary that the host is too far ahead in the main story and you should likely let Gary host so that you can complete the quests you did without him.

Basically, if you and Gary don't play your characters without each other, you'll always both be at the same point no matter who hosts.

Clear? Good.
