Enjoy Fallout 2.
Make your own game engine which supports thousands of players at once.
Import assets from Fallout 1&2.
???
Don't profit because it's fucking free.
I present you with: FOnline 2238 (http://fonline2238.blogspot.com/)
The Fallout MMO
I came when I was told of the concept, and I came even harder when I found out that it's completely free, user made, and in Open beta. The game itself is ridiculous, it's an MMO for real men, with real penises. You start out alone, somewhere and the first thing you can really do is shovel shit.
Shovel that shit all the way to level 2. Just make sure you don't stumble upon any rad scorpions, rats, raiders, slavers or other players. In a PvE and PvP universe, you're going to get your ass kicked more times than you can count. The world is entirely open, unlike some of the more mainstream MMOs of today, there is no plotline, you're no hero and you're not being told you're special along with the other 400 people in the server. You just want to survive and doing that is really... REALLY hard. A punishing, entirely player-driven world and economy to be part of.
If you're a fan of the original Fallout games, own Fallout 2 (or more specifically, MASTER.DAT and CRITTERS.DAT *cough* *cough*), and have always wondered what it would be like to be no hero in the Fallout games - here is your chance. Just prepare to die. A lot. I almost ragequit being eaten to death by rats for the eight time while trying to make my way from the spawn near PvP towns in the north, to the more noob friendly protected areas in the south.
PS. If you've owned and loved fallout, but can't find the CDs after 11 years you can get the game here (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fallout_2) and here (http://store.steampowered.com/app/38410/), OR locate just the .DAT files elsewhere, I hear it's legal to download backups of things you own. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who hasn't played through both games anyway.
