View Full Version : Borderlands to be boosted with more DLC

Last year's sleeper hit Borderlands has already been the recipient of two DLC packs so far, and it appears that there's more coming. The boss of the studio behind the co-op shooter/RPG hybrid, Randy Pitchford said the following in an interview with IGN this week:
"We are investing a lot of time in supporting the game with free updates and paid downloadable content. There will be some announcements on both fronts soon, I expect."
So it looks like Borderlands is going to be around for some time yet - whilst they're not everyone's favourites, Take-Two should at least be commended for not looking to rush out a quick sequel to their co-op shooter, hm Valve?

Possibly because, after seeing how bad they are at making plots, Take-Two decided never again to create a full-length plot?
One can hope -_-

I don't think adding paid DLC is a great way of boosting game sales. I have never ever looked at a game and bought it because the developer give me the opportunity to pay even more later on!
Put it all in one purchase and well talk.

No, but I think it's a good way of keeping the game 'in circulation'. God, I can't even count the number of games I'd have gladly paid a few notes for to get a couple of hours' extra play.

Cool. Guess it's time to dust off the game again. Never finished it though.

CKS: don't ;) I can honestly say that even Stephen King's Dark Tower series had a better ending than Borderlands... which will mean nothing to you if you haven't read it, but meh.

Lol, I have no idea. Never read a book in my whole life. :p
My general opinion about the game is that is sorta the same as L4D. Run, shoot, run again and kill the same AI's over and over. Like with L4D, borderlands is good if you play it with a few friends.

Yeah, I have to say, whilst I didn't think it set the world alight, I'm not quite sure I understand all the hate the game seems to be getting from some gamers. It seemed like a good game with a bad ending but a lot of potential to improve, and I'll definitely check out the sequel when it hits.

Doh, so i can expect some sort of disappointing ending? Guess i really have to dust of the game just to find out how it ends. And did they really just rename the word "expansion" to "DLC" or am i missing something?

DLC tends to be more branches than a continuation of the story, from what I've noticed.
(for the record, other than the ending, I loved Borderlands)

I honestly don't think that DLC's add that much more to a game. What i consider a game "expansion" is pretty much part two of the game. Most of the 'old' strategy games like "Cossacks" had large expansions, nearly as big as the original game.

When I think 'expansion', I tend to think of the Gearbox spin-offs from the original Half-Life (Opposing Force and Blue Shift) which were full length games played in the same universe and at the same time as the original. If an 'expansion' is part two of a game and of any reasonable length (and, let's face it, "reasonably length" is getting shorter), I tend to call it a sequel.

Hmm, you're probably right. I'm having a hard time telling a real difference though. As far as I'm concerned, no 'expansion' or 'DLC' will ever be any better then the original game it's based off.
Borderlands was decent fun for the first couple hours but after awhile it became far to repetitive. It has one of the worst endings for a game that I have ever experienced. It failed hard enough that I will never play that game again no matter how much DLC is released. I can't imagine paying those dooshers for an expansion that adds a storage bank in the game. How do you make a game which focuses on GUNS GUNS GUNS but they want you to pay later for storage. lol I wanted to like this game. Please tell me i'm wrong and the storage is now included in the base game.

I'm so happy because I got a lot of the actual game still left to play and then I have all the DLC codes :D Yay!

Are you playing Borderlands at the moment? Because I've been looking for someone to run co-op on that for ages.

I just completed the game. Started my second playthrough, and man are those skags annoying or what?? Geez they take a hell of a lot bullets to die. My beast of a machinegun is nothing now :(

Heh, me and Daggers started with new characters. We got to about level 14 in a few hours, and we were just about to go after Sledge.

Do you guys have the DLC Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot?
That thing is insane and boring. You can't quit in the middle, so you gotta play the same arena for like hours. Just figured it would go faster with more people
