How many of you plan to play when this comes out later this fall?

I've never so much as taken a cursory glance at the FF games, to be honest. And, frankly, that trailer has ensured I wont for a long time to come.

Eh, I like the 'console' Final Fantasy games, but having had a brief go on FFXI, which was a PC-based MMORPG, it was awful and I hated it. It seems like FFXIII (out in the UK in March) is going to be 'good' Final Fantasy, and FFXIV is going to be 'bad' Final Fantasy.

I read some commentary by the developers of FFXIV and they basically said they will make the game more like every other MMO with their own job system thrown in. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as a FF flavored combo of all the other popular MMO mechanics seems like its worth a trial run. I also played FFXI for awhile and walked away from it because it had no solo game. Spending hours trying to find the right people to group with was a headache inducing nightmare.

Not only do I not care for Final Fantasy, it confuses the crap out of me. There are so many, some look medieval, others sci-fi... Some are MMOs, some aren't, two FF come out in the same year I just.... wat

Rumours are, this is going to be a multi-platform title. The resume of one of the designers apparently lists work on 'Final Fantasy XIV - PC, PS3, Xbox 360'.

Now, I wonder if players across the different formats will be able to interact... that would be one HELL of an ambitious project.

FFXI was cross platform which was technically impressive. Unfortunately in reality it meant that you had another huge obstacle between you and the forming of a group worth your time. If people can't communicate quickly in an MMO then they probably won't have much success or enjoyment.

It makes sense that FFXIV will follow suit and be playable on PC/360/PS3. I have a slightly more optimistic view this time around because both consoles have keyboard attachments for the controllers and voice chat should be easier to setup and use on current gen consoles. I really think I'm done with MMOs but if one has the chance to bring me back... this is it.
