Hello there guys my name's Jim, I'm 24 and I like to play adventure and role playing games mostly, though I do enjoy a good shooter every now and then.

I have a tendency to get addicted to my game of the moment and when I have the next day off work I sometimes play until the early hours like some kind of zombie!
Currently I am addicted to Minecraft (of all things) and am also playing Fallout New Vegas and the brilliant Portal 2.

I also like to mess around with blender and the gimp, though I've never been very good at drawing so I just stick to textures on simple models.

Cheers all,
Jim.

Hi friend. Glad to see a new face. :]

Looks like our gaming tastes match quite well. I've put my share of life into all three of those games. Well... Portal 2 not so much as the rest, but here is hoping the summer DLC will allow that to happen. :p

Ill let Jason do the honors on our standard greeting procedure.

Heyhey there Jim, always good to have a fellow limey here on MG - helps keep the Australians under control. ;) If you've got any questions, feel free to swing me or any of the others a question. :)

So, as Konnie hinted at, we have something of an initiation question here at MG for all the new folks - If you could only pick one, what's your favourite game ever?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys much appreciated.

Oh god only one favourite game?! I think almost every new game I play becomes my favourite for a while.

I seem to return to Bethesda games the most. The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series I really love because of the mystery of exploration and the many different ways to play your character. They still haven't got the dialogue down for me though and they keep recycling the same voice actors through their games, do these guys do it on the cheap or something? The thing that really does it for me is the powerful construction sets they have, I think making mods is quite a bit of fun. So maybe one of those.

Thinking back to memories of games in the past probably my favourite are of Streets of Rage when me and my best friend would surround a boss and alternately punch them so they couldn't move. The sight of them turning to the last person to hit them always had me in hysterics, they look so stupid and confused. I laughed so hard once I almost had an asthma attack. Played it recently with him on the Sega Ultimate Collection. I don't know what it is about it but it still kills me, I had to pause the game!

I also think they should bring out a Roadrash game on Xbox live. Even an eight player race would be so cool. I used to play that game none stop.

@HappySister I haven't gotten around to playing Terraria yet but I watched a few "Let's Play" videos on Youtube and I will probably be getting that game sometime soon (definitely). It looks to have much stronger adventuring elements than Minecraft and I have to admit that my interest in Minecraft is waning because of the lack this.

Anyway that's enough of my waffle!
cheers,
Jim

Streets of Rage = win. the second one was my favorite (probably because it was the one i played the most). the first one seemed, meh, and the third was was okay, but it was lacking something. i dunno what. was fun playing as the boxing kangaroo though.

i've never played Minecraft, but i've seen some gameplay videos and Let's Plays of it. from what i saw, Terraria is better. a friend and i bought the game 2 days ago so we could play coop and haven't grown tired of it yet. sooo much fun. whenever you get the game, let me know if you want a buddy to dig through caves with.

Don't mind Jason. This is just what he says to help to help himself sleep at night--he really has no control over the Australians.

Well, English though you may be, I welcome you. I keep meaning to get into this newfangled "Minecraft" thing all the cool kids are playing, but just don't find the time for something so time intensive. The basic premise makes me think back to my days of building with Lego: hunting for the right pieces amidst the massive collection I had and then trying to get it all together without some bastard breaking it.

Alas, I digress, welcome to Mature Gamers'. It's safer here.

I hate to do this here, but they're such vastly different games I'd be hard pressed to point a finger at one and say it's better. You're putting too strong a tie between a 3D, First Person Building Game, and a 2D, Sidescrolling Exploration game. They're not exactly competing titles, in fact they don't have that much to do with each other, so why must one emerge superior by comparison?

There is something about the notion that "if it has blocks in it, it must be compared to minecraft" that just tickles me wrong.

Its just like how IGN likes to compare every single shooter to Call of Duty and every JRPG to Final Fantasy. If there are the slightest elements of similarities between two games, whichever has the least prestige is automatically the rip off.

Ah, and this appears to be our other welcoming tradition - at the point the welcome thread dissolves into random chatter or mild xenophobia towards our Antipodean cousins, that usually means you've been accepted into the community. :p

Also, I hadn't heard of Terraria. Co-op? Sounds intriguing. Googling.

blah blah blah, Mr. Freeman.

can i not give my own personal opinion on something without being harped on? -_- i was trying to hold a friendly conversation with the new guy, and here you've turned it into something completely different.
