Hey there,
I was wondering, does anyone here play (or have played) World of Warcraft? If so, what are your good and bad thoughts and please clarify. Personally I've played World of Warcraft ever since the bèta up till August 2008, then quit for about a year and decided to play again. I think it's a good game still, with some potential of roleplaying.
I think the community is the thing what makes World of Warcraft so 'addictive'. I'm not blaming the game itself, however. It's still the person who decides whether to stick to the game or not. As to that, I'd also like to know what your favourite class and race is. Mine's definitely a Tauren Shaman, with Blood Elf (female) priest following.

I have to say that I've never particularly liked WoW. I gave it a try on the 21-day trial promotion, and it just didn't appeal to me in the slightest - a lot of the people I came across were either complete dicks or trying to beg stuff off me (seriously, I'm brand new - what could I POSSIBLY have that would be of use to you?).
I guess that combined with the negative image the game has due to the 'hardcore' minority who don't know where to draw the line has pretty much formed the basis of my opinion of the game.
Then again, people who I genuinely like and respect who I'd never have thought would play the game have confessed to being borderline addicted to it, so clearly something's there. Maybe I just don't get it.

My experience of it comes down to a few hours worth of play on my ex's account (both a new char and her high-level one) and I have to say it didn't appeal to me in the slightest.
I spent more time talking to people than I did actually playing :/
It's an alright game, I'll admit, but in no way at all is it worth paying for monthly, to me.

I second petty much everything that Jason said. I've seen up close what WoW addiction can do with a person. My youngest brother played it for around 2 years when he was a teenager. He literally turned into a blob. He would have friends over, but they would sit behind him quietly, whilst he was playing the game for hours on end. If we ever did try to make contact, he would just groan at us.
Today, hes got his own apartment, a nice GF and went from being a blob to becoming a tall man going to the gym 3 days a week.
I did try it for around 10 minutes and frankly that was enough. Those games are just made for keeping you addicted and keep paying money each month. No thank you.

Two words - South. Park.
But seriously - I've generally had a poor opinion of WoW and the like - in fact I don't really enjoy playing online unless it's with people I know and you can only limit the game to those people. The only games I really enjoyed playing online was Starcraft and Earth2025 (which partly formed my opinion of mass-online games, but I still made a few good friends there, so it's not all bad)

I guess none of us are big fans. Aside from the concept of monthly payment's that I'm not a fan of, the trial I had just didn't do it for me.

I haven't tried it and probably won't. The monthly fee sucks.

Actually, I believe you can also pay each two months, ~€30.00. Pretty fair price, in my opinion, for such a great game. I wonder what the monthly fee for TOR would be like though.

That's one of the things you come across very quickly if it comes to joining World of Warcraft that has such a community. Fact is, most World of Warcraft players are immature and cocky persons, but I used to ignore them for the sake of ignoring, as to enjoy my game.
I played from beta until late 2008 also. The game has progressed a lot over the years and of all the MMO's available it is the best. As soon as my friends started transferring to different servers the game lost all interest to me. I tried hopping back on recently and now I see it for what it is...

I found that EvE Online was very similar. The community (with a couple of exceptions) was almost hostile towards new members, particularly on the official boards. To me, this is the developers not doing their jobs. If you've got members who are actively griefing new members (your potential income), you need to start cracking some skulls and getting your house in order.

I played for a long while, got sick of the monthly fees and classic wow (before expansions) was always the best.. which is why I made a classic wow server to people to play the game on for free ;)
