View Full Version : Which Civilization do you prefer?

Jason got me to thinking about which Civilization game is best and I was wondering what the general consensus was here?

Personally, while I Love Civilization II - and would spend days on end playing it when I first got it - I'm more inclined to say Civ III (with Conquests)... more because of the better graphics, and the introduction of resources and civ perks. Civ II will always hold a place in my heart as the first though :)

What about everyone else?

I'm actually still to play Civ IV, but I don't think it'll ever appeal to me. For me, Civ II was the perfect balance between easy to get into and hard to master. It was simple enough that anyone could dive right into it, but my god, once it got a hold of you...

CiV 2 I believe I played on a PS One emulator on my PSP. It was a lot of fun, but it was pretty simple and oh GOD the time it took the AI to take a turn. I did, due to it's portability, lose myself for over an entire week so I'd say it had a good grasp on me.

CiV 4 I've had almost from release an it was actually the first of the series I've ever played. It was a ton of fun even if I didn't understand a lot of it, but many unslept nights were had because of it, and even more six-hour long LAN games with my cousin during the summer.

*brainwave* - perhaps one of the Civ games would make for a good forum game? Of course, it would likely mean putting aside whole days' worth of time, but y'know...

*cough* DEFCON *cough*

CIV in a large team game does sound awesome though... We could all form alliances and betray MNDF and it would be great. We probably would have to split it up into several days though.

Is it possible to save online games?

In CIV IV? Absolutely, I've done it many times.

By the way, I don't have any of the expansions and I don't think I'm looking to get them since I don't play the game enough. My cousin has it so maybe I can borrow his since beyond the sword really makes for a more interesting (albeit complicated) game.

US$20... eh. I'm not in the monetary position to be buying that.

I bought Civ IV last night. Perhaps an option would be to get Civ III? I believe it's only about $5 USD, and I imagine it'll have most of the functions of Civ IV.

Does anyone own Civ III? If we can test whether multiplayer games can be saved, that'd be just fine and dandy.

Civ III complete is $5 on steam like you said, I have no problem spending that much if it gives me something to play with you folks.

I had a look on Steam but couldn't find III - but Direct2Drive has the Gold edition (for online play) for $4.95 - available worldwide (unlike some games grrrr)

Civ II. Simplicity and complexity wrapped in a delicious package of world domination, plus it's where AzH came from.
