I don't know if any of you were lucky enough to be able to register for their "testing" period, or how many of you are aware of Google+
Google have released their own social network which, to be perfectly honest, looks damn good. You can take a look at what they have in store here:
http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/
I think this has the capacity to be huge. Could it overtake facebook? We've seen from the likes of Myspace, Bebo and others that social networking sites don't last forever, eventually something better comes along and I think as far as Facebook is concerned, this could be that something better.
Just to give some background information. Myspace was purchased by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp for $580 million back in it's prime in 2005. It was recently sold on by News Corp for a reported $35 million. The reason for this: Facebook.

Interesting, though the 'learn more' page doesn't show enough to make me care much at the moment. Suppose I would need a little hands on to see how it works.
EDIT: I will try it out tomorrow, I am too tired to make a Google account at the moment.

I think some of the features are pretty awesome, especially the "circles" feature.

Okay, seriously, love Google to death - really, I do - but I'm seriously not going to want to sign up for yet ANOTHER social network (i'm running with like, 7 here.) find ALL my friends again, have to check that along with the 7 others everyday... If its anything like facebook (which they say it is.) I'm not going to give it the time of day until the sun freezes over, facebook goes bankrupt, and I miraculously become tall. er.
*Its not 7. Its more like 4.

Social networks... They're only good when they're big and functional. Knowing google it will be functional, but being a social network early adopter is... well I don't get it.

As is the case in 98% of situations in life, xkcd can answer this for me:

Which is to say: when it gets open I will likely join it. I like Google. I do not like Facebook corp. (or whatever they call themselves).

hmmm....i might actually try this. though i'm afraid that they'll have the facebook equivalent to Farmville and thus i will get spammed by game invites again.
MyNameDidntFit
07-01-2011, 06:21 PM
Eh, as long as they have the 'block all from this game' option that FB has I'll be fine. I just hit that on each game once as they pop up and I'm sittin' pretty.

I honestly don't think it's going to be as heavily geared towards shitty games as Facebook but we shall have to wait and see.

Does look good. Shame there's too many folks signed up already. No room for more.

From what I have heard so far I feel it's going to be really good but it is going to take a lot to take over facebook now to be honest. I signed up to see if I get in but I haven't had anything yet, would love to take a look and see more.

At the moment it seems like they've just renamed the Facebook 'friend lists' and added a Skype feature. I'm pretty skeptical of this, especially considering how much of a success Google Wave was. :P
But if anybody manages to score an invite that they can't get rid of, then I can relieve you of that burden... y'know... if you're into that kind of thing. :P

I'm on, Just signed up now, I'd try now for signing in if you want to have a go.
Still playing about with everything but first impression is it's a neater version of facebook.

I couldn't join either. The circles idea does look pretty cool and easier to use with desktop-like drag and drop abilities. Can't wait to try it out on android.

As have I.
One of the first things I thought to do, was create a Mature Gamers group akin to the Facebook function but no dice. There are Google groups of course, but I'm pretty sure that's a completely different affair. >_>
We should figure something out so we could all add each other perhaps. I... I just want to have a friend or two. >_>
Betty

make a circle for it?
MyNameDidntFit
07-10-2011, 03:21 PM
But that doesn't let other people find and join it.

A circle as far as I know is an extremely one sided affair. Kind of like categories in AIM or MSN messenger, purely organisational. You can make them, people can see you made them, but it doesn't really mean anything past that.
What I had in mind was something like a Steam or Facebook group.

I'm very impressed with it so far, mostly because it let me fill in my entire University course name.

Yes actually Google plus is really awesome, even I’m having a Google+ account which is having some new user friendly features like “friends circle”. I think Google+ is much better than Facebook.

I do have an account in Google +. I do have only few friends in it. I think it is not expanded all over the word yet. But it would be a boosting social network in future.

I really like Google+. I've pretty much stopped using Facebook for it, though hardly anyone I know really makes use of it, but anyone can add me if they want:
