Can't say the same on the shocked front. He's been having health issues for a while now.
Some of the jokes surrounding this (like every high-profile death) are actually rather good if you're of the right mindset to laugh about death.

I can't say I'm surprised - the man had cancer. Leaving the company was probably a good sign that it's not going well for him.
While I belong to the Apple Public Enemy #1 master race, the man's death really hit me in a way I didn't expect.
I felt that it's damn shame, that while most of what he came up with wasn't directed at me as a customer - it was always something that changed the market significantly. Against my better judgement, I was looking forward to seeing what weird Jobs designed gadget Apple releases next. I didn't have to justify buying it, or find a need for it - but I wanted to read about it. Also there is no denying the man had a sense of style that is horribly missing from the computer hardware industry on the whole. I guess that feeling is sort of gone now, even if Apple has lately been mostly just improving than innovating.
But people die, and others have to move on. I don't know how I missed them but I haven't heard a single Jobs joke. Have to search.

This only reinforces my belief that somewhere there's an underground database of jokes about public figures just waiting to go in the event that they die. I'm sure that's the only way they can get jokes out about it so fast.
On-topic, and it's sad to see anyone die young, particularly someone who has done so much to push the design of technology forwards. I'm like Konrad in that I'm not a fan of Apple products in general, nor their attitude towards their drones customers' privacy, but I respect what Steve Jobs did for the industry - he turned Apple from a dying brand into a true technological powerhouse, and forced other manufacturers to up their game in order to keep up.

I believe Jobs himself had announced a while back that he would step down from Apple when he felt his health would no longer allow him to look after the company. What did shock me a little bit is how fast it happened. What was it, like 6 weeks?
For me, this gets me thinking about mortality. My mother had the same type of cancer just a few months ago, but it was detected in time. Steve Jobs was only a few years older, too.
