In a bit of a shock move, Popcap games' undead-themed tower defence game Plants Vs Zombies has snagged a nomination for PC Game of The Year, swimming with AAA heavyweights Dragon Age: Origins, Left 4 Dead 2, and The Sims 3.
It's the first time a game from a 'casual' developer has managed a nomination for Game of The Year, and it's a well-deserved one too. I got this game on the cheap a while ago through Steam, and despite not being a fan of 'casual' games in the slightest, this game had me absorbed for a couple of weeks - it's got a good sense of humour, intelligently balanced, and it's ludicrously addictive.
Of course, it'll never win, but it's nice to see the little guy getting some recognition once in a while. :)

Yeah, it was amazing. Once at 12:30 am I decided to have a quick game for half an hour or so before going to bed. I played and played, thought it was more than 2 hours, turned the lights on and it was 4:55 am. Yes, that happened, it was that good.
And, it is currently on sale in the Steam Store for $4.99. Plus there is a demo of the game.

Best of all, it's half price on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/3590/) for the next few days - if you don't own this game already, please, for the love of god, do so now.
How often do you get the chance to pick up a game of the year candidate for less than $7, really?!
EDIT: You beat me to it, Iggy - not for the first time, either! :p
I am pretty fast for an old guy....

I tried the demo, and it kept me busy for roughly 50 minutes (I have 10 left on the 60 minute demo), but im not really tempted to come back. Ill try it with an actual mouse attatched to my laptop later on, perhaps that will change the experience for the better.

Never tried it. Gonna try the demo and see how it is.
OK, I bought it. Five bucks for an addicting game that's lots of fun!!!:)

What's more, I can guarantee that the grandkids will love it. My daughter's only five and already all she wants to do every time she comes over is 'play the gardening game, daddy!'

Just bought the game myself. Need to support the little game devs.

If you're after other popcap games that are good fun, I can recommend Peggle. It's as retro as they come, primary colours everywhere, but once again, it's addictive as hell - give the demo a try if you don't believe me. ;)

I played this for the first time a couple weeks ago at a mate's house. I was drunk. It was fantastic.
But then I stopped.
And played drunken World of Goo for longer than I'd care to admit.
... I'm never buying either of those games because I will lose what little life I have -_-
