View Full Version : No LittleBigPlanet sequel for PS3?

When Media Molecule, the developers of the PS3's favourite community-based platformer announced recently that they were staffing up for an upcoming 'Groundbreaking AAA Title for Sony Computer Entertainment', there were an awful lot (perhaps understandably) of rumours floating round about a possible sequel to Sackboy's side-scrolling adventures.
However, in a fairly rare move in today's sequel-driven game industry, the developers have come out and stated categorically that a sequel isn't going to be happening on the PS3, as it would "be the most counterproductive thing you could do [for the community]".
It's a refreshing point of view, and an increasingly rare one, where the developers are choosing to supplement an existing title with masses of DLC rather than just take the 'cheap and easy' way out and rush out a sub-par sequel.
Media Molecule, here's to you! :thumb:

Eh, Media Molecule, I am tired of these exclusive PS3 games. At least when their is and exclusive game for the 360 you know that their is a chance that it could be ported to the PC. But I don't think Sony will ever let any of their games run under a Microsoft OS.

True, but it works both ways - a lot of PS3 gamers would cut off their grandmother's right arm for a go at Left 4 Dead 2, methinks.

I don't think a wrinkly old arm is enough to afford a low-mid-range gaming PC. :p

I had not heard about MM saying that. I find it interesting though. If they continue to produce neat little costumes and, more importantly, more creation tools and goodies it could continue to grow. I haven't played in a while though to be honest and I'm not sure why. We played the crap out of it when we first got it and even went through all the story levels to get 100% on each. Of course we played some awesome user-created levels but it just died off. My brother and I made a little game where you're piloting these little flying battle pods around trying to destroy the other one but we haven't perfected it.
I guess a good example of them continuing to improve the game rather than releasing a sequel is that they now have co-op level creation online. That opens the doors for some things that some users may not have considered--The ability to seek out help for a specific idea you're stumped on that another user may have nailed down. For example, my brother and I's project has a mechanic that we haven't quite figured out involving a way for the level to ensure a winner and points payout while preventing potential abusers of the system (which is easier said than done). We've got the pods and the battle system down but that part has stumped us.
Anyway, an interesting read. I hope the improvements continue to roll out and, for the most part, stay cheap or free.

I've recently got back into LBP, as my 5-year-old daughter has fallen in love with it, and as such I'm dragged along for the ride.
I've never really got massively into it, mainly due to never really getting into the level editor due to purchasing other games, and not being able to find a good online team to have a laugh with while playing. It's definitely a social game.
Still, it's good to see MM are really following through with their DLC and updates - the word is that there are more trophies and some Pirates of The Caribbean DLC on the way (that is, if they're not out already).

I believe I read that the water is going in that pack too.
