Most kinds of stuff (with exceptions such as country, reggaeton and norteņa), but I'm into all kinds of heavy metal (except funeral/drone doom), avant-garde, classical/baroque and gangsta rap more than anything.
My all-time favorite band is Pantera.

Rock. Metal.
Iron Maiden and Megadeth are my favourite bands.

That's such a weird coincidence! I was on a bus coming back home 4 hours ago listening to Muse on the headphones and thought "why hasn't anyone posted a thread about music in the off-topic section?" So I decided to post one since it seems kind of slow with gaming now a days!
You beat me to it Impulse!
It seems we got a lot of metal fans, I used to be one myself but I kind of grew out of it I guess (yep, I feel really, really old) Now I listen mostly to electronic, alternative, indie, J-Rock (remnants of my Anime otaku phase,) movies, anime and video games soundtracks, classic (that was kind of forced upon me at first because my brother is a pianist and he rehearses and listen to classic music up to 10 hours a day, but now I can't live without it:naughty:)
My favorites are Muse, Depeche Mode, System of a Down, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, She Wants Revenge, Rammstein, Perfect Circle, Puscifier, Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town, Orange Range, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, The Offspring, Clawfinger, Queens of the Stone Age, Moby, Arctic Monkeys, Delta Goodrem, Lily Allen, Katy Perry, Yani, Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Beethoven, Grieg, Liszt, Bizet, Albeniz, Bach, Schubert, Rachmaninov, Vivaldi and Tchaicovsky. I also used to like bands like Slipknot, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Sepeltura and Papa Roach but not anymore!

A thing me and my brother (who's not that much into gaming) has been doing lately is play 3rd person shooters in co-op modes listening to classical music. Strangely, it fitted very well with both Gears of War 2 and Resident Evil 5. Go figure!

I'm very much into rock, blues and bluesy rock. I won't go about giving a full list of favourite bands but amongst my recent favourites are The Kills, The Black Keys and The White Stripes.
I also love my avant garde and instrumentals, Buckethead and Ratatat are some idols.
I used to be a totally mainstream metalhead, with the likes of Metallica, Slipknot and System of a Down. But that changed.
I no longer tolerate Slipknot and never bother with System of a Down. Metallica remains in my playlists for sentimental value largely, though I went a concert a few months ago and it was a thing of beauty, there is something about them that I will probably love until the end of time.

... listening to Muse...
Muse are a good band, but their latest album kind of... well... sucked. At least, that's what I thought anyway.
I really can't see how you could grow out of metal like Iron Maiden--Steve Harris just does the most amazing things with his guitar. Call me a fanboy >.>

Wasn't Harris the bassist?
Man, I haven't listened to Maiden since 2007...

Shit. Sorry. Wasn't thinking straight. I meant Janick Gers.

A bass is also a geetar guise. YOU'RE IGNORANT.
I never liked Iron Maiden. There was just nothing all that appealing to me about them, didn't hate them either.
As for the last Muse album, it was excellent in my opinion. It was quite different from their past work but damnit, that's what being a musician is about.

Yes, on technical terms, but a distinction is typically made between types of guitars. Hell, if people make a distinction between acoustic and electric, bass should be obligatory.
Am I the only person who doesn't listen to Muse here? =/

I'm not a fan of Muse. The last album (Black Holes and Revelations) was so good even I liked it, despite being a self-professed sceptic of them, so I checked out the newest one, The Resistance.
Wasn't impressed at all. Just spectacularly meh. Plus Bowie beat them to the '1984' concept album by about 20 years. :p
Blues, only the blues.
If you are into podcasts, there is an awesome one called the Roadhouse and the guy only plays independent artists, none of the mainstream stuff.
There are over 250 one hour podcasts available for download.

Jason, Black Holes and Revelations was arguably their best but I do agree with Konrad about the Resistance. At first I didn't think much of it but I think it's one of those things that the more you listen to the more you liked.

I'm a very, very big fan of metal, specifically Black Metal/Symphonic Black Metal. I know it's not the most common kind of metal that most people like, but it's truly awesome in my eyes - not to mention also very 'immersive' while listening. Some good bands I like would be Dimmu Borgir, Abominable Putridity, Borknagar, Arcturus and Immortal. Unlike many, many other black metal bands, Dimmu Borgir focuses more on creating a true dark atmosphere, rather than inflict 'fear' through their lyrics (which I call 'fake' bands, no offense). You should really listen to some of Dimmu Borgir's songs, such as 'Chaos Without Prophecy', 'The Promised Future Aeons', 'Mourning Palace' and the best of 'em all, 'Master of Disharmony' (the intro is quite heavy though). Great use of orchestra and more.
I also like folk and death metal, though I don't prefer them to black metal. Eluveitie, Cruachan, Alestorm and Arch Enemy ain't that bad!

Rock, alternative and metal for me. Some of my favorites are chevelle, five finger death punch, metallica, sevendust, soil, static x.. I could go on forever.

Ah, I don't mind a little bit of Soil every now and then. I have no idea why, but I was wandering round the supermarket the other day and 'Halo' found its way into my subconscious - strange, as I hadn't heard the song in years.

As someone else posted.. after years of listening to, dance, trance, rave and hard core techno I pretty much listen to anything now.
I love aussie hip hop and that dominates my play lists. Have gotten back into old style rock'n'roll lately. Lots of dub and grime.. bit of grunge from time to time..
