Well, it didn't take long - we all knew that sooner or later Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was going to clash with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - both big-name franchises in the same genre, both big sequels to successful games, and both backed by huge publishers.
And now they've got something else in common - they've both got DLC packs landing on the 30th of March. With Infinity Ward claiming they're looking to fix "Mapathy (http://mapathy.com/)" by releasing new maps to play on, (which if you believe rumours will include two old maps from the original Modern Warfare... which kind of defeats the point, doesn't it?) DICE were quick to get a sly jab in (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/03/10/how-to-avoid-mapathy-without-paying.aspx) and announce the second VIP map pack (although I still can't access the first pack thanks to EA's server issues!) will be released for free on the same date.
It looks like the Battlefield boys have been buoyed by the early success of the game and are looking to take the fight to Infinity Ward straight off the bat. Of course, thanks to a one-month exclusivity deal, Xbox 360 players will be the only ones getting the DLC for Modern Warfare on the 30th March, meaning that Battlefield will have the PC and PS3 platforms more or less to itself for at least a month.
It's going to be interesting to see which way this one goes and who comes out on top - the powerhouse of Modern Warfare 2 with its unstoppable hype machine, or the plucky underdog of Bad Company 2?
