I can't say why they did it, but according to the latest update news on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/news/3607/), Bad Company 2 no longer runs SecuROM. This doesn't particularly affect me, or any normal gamer, for that matter, but it's still a nice thing to do.

What I would love to believe this represents is a change in the attitude of developers that reflects the reality that DRM is useless beyond preventing piracy in the early stages of release. I'd love for game developers to start removing DRM after a few weeks or a month of release so that those of us who have legitimate games no longer have to 'put up with' it. Yes, I'm dreaming, I know, but it's worth thinking about.

I say good show to EA and Dice for this.

Hopefully because they're smart. The game has been cracked, and at this point the only thing secu-rom prevented was friends borrowing each other's games.

It appears though, that it's only the Steam version that had it removed (haven't seen it in any other patch notes, but haven't looked) which is also logical. Steam is DRM in itself after all.

I too say, good show. On the other hand, getting mixed signals here, what with C&C4.

Has the world gone insane?

First they insult their customers with the C&C4 DRM that isnt' a DRM, then they do something nice?

Still, it's good to see some companies getting the point and moving forward.

EA being as big as it is, I imagine the different branches working on C&C4 and BC2 are able to operate pretty much on their own terms, explaining why on one side they're removing DRM and on the other they're pretending it's not there.
