I mean, it's about time really. With such a small HDD to begin with, and the introduction of Games on Demand, it had to happen eventually that Microsoft would release a 250gb HDD by itself. Now it looks like they've finally done it.

So far there's not much in the way of details - I just found this on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/standalone-xbox-360-250gb-hard-drive-confirmed-by-dashboard/):

It's listed on Amazon, but no official price is set yet - it's been banded around that it could be as high as $130 and as low as $59.99. Still, the 250gb size is tiny if you solely download games and add-ons instead of buying them, but it's a start. Let's just hope the $59.99 price tag is true. :)

That's great that they are increasing the storage capacity of their console, but forcing people to spend $0.52/GB is ridiculous when you can buy most HDDs for $0.07-$0.10/GB + an enclosure. I could get $1.5TB of space for the same price as their 250GB HDD.

BOOOOOOOO Microsoft

Let's be honest, who's particularly surprised by that move though? It's not like Microsoft have a history of being money-grabbing swines is... oh.

However, it is a good thing that they're finally rolling out a respectable-sized HDD, although Sony still have the edge with their 'put whatever the hell you like in there' HDD option.

I know it's how Microsoft does things but I will continue to bitch about it and move my $$$ in Sony's direction. I have one digital game on my xbox HDD and eight on my PS3. I'm not interested in spending money with Microsoft if I can avoid it.
