Yeah, right, this might seem like a weird thing to post... but... WHAT THE HELL?

Scrabble's rules have been in place for over sixty years, if they introduce a new set it will affect the current rules whether they leave the current version in production. People already have trouble knowing the rules... sigh.

In case you're wondering what I'm ranting about:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8604625.stm

Anyone else here actually care about Scrabble? I love it :D

I like scrabble, but i'm not excited that PEPSI and ROBERT are going to be words that count towards a point total. Scrabble is supposed to help you increase your vocabulary instead of being a reminder of who you know and what brand of pants you wear.

Oh man that is so freaking terrible. I love playing scrabble, and never once thought to myself, "this game should be easier!". How ridiculous is that? I can't wait for the arguments I'm going to get in with my Aunt who already tries her hardest to put non-words in there. What happens to the famed scrabble dictionary?? Do they add a phone book in there too to get all the proper names and businesses involved? EPIC FAIL!!

I, for one, know that I'm going to be keeping a copy of the original rules handy and will likely force them upon anyone that dares suggest we play these new rules.

Also, will be keeping a stick handy to smack them with.

That's... wrong in almost every sense of the word. I don't play Scrabble all that much, but if someone tried to use the word 'PEPSI' in a game I was playing in, they'd be picking tiles out of their teeth. :D

Lmao.

All that violence over just a game of Scrabble?
You act as though it's been violated.

Although, this is coming from a person who never plays Scrabble and doesn't really care for it ...
My Grampa, on the other hand, if you tried to use the new rules with him he'd probably react in the same (but not so violent) way.

All that violence over the rules of Scrabble. Scrabble isn't a violent game, but people that enjoy it know that there is only one way it should be played.

And they say videogames are the cause of violence... Turns out it was Scrabble all along. :p

That makes sense yeah, why not play the game it should be played. I s'pose it would take the fun out of it if people were choosing random brand names and such like. It's supposed to be a somewhat intellectual game, yeah? I can see your point.

I s'pose I'm just not that into scrabble/have an extremely bad vocabulary. I could never beat my grampa haha.

Yeah, Scrabble has always been an intellectual game and the addition of proper nouns will add millions of words that would previously have had the other three players beating you upside the head with their canes or shoving the tiles you used into your eye sockets -- and, in the case of myself and Jason, still will :D
