View Full Version : Gears of War 3
Gears of War 3 was accidentally revealed (http://kotaku.com/5513222/gears-of-war-3-coming-april-2011?skyline=true&s=i) a little bit early thanks to a mix up between the Jimmy Fallon show and the 360 ad team. Nothing is known about the game yet other then the release date of April, 2011. The 360 dashboard had the reveal up last night.
GOW2 had a fast paced campaign and good cooperative integration. If GOW3 takes that base and puts some icing on top then i'm in!

Love Gears, just never got very good at the multiplayer aspect. I try though, oh god how I try! :)

I'm still yet to play a Gears game, although I'll definitely do so when I get chance - you can see they're tremendously well-made games, and there aren't many well-made games that aren't also great fun to play. :D

I'm the same haha. Awful at the multiplayer but I s'pose just need practice.
I love the Horde option, it's just so much fun to play that with a couple of friends. It gets really easy if you set up a strategy for it too, like I'll sit up the top of the map and headshot as many as I can with the sniper while my friend attacks the ones that get too close or we'll just massacre our way through it.
I wonder if they'll produce different gameplays in the new one.
Oh yeah Horde mode was the best part of the entire game. I never did beat the entire 50 waves on insane. I never got into the other multiplayer modes.

I made it to level 45 with a team once and the host quit on me, was so frustrated that I never attempted it again! I do a little better at annex than I do on execution, but it's an easier mode. what's your favorite map?

If you haven't played a Gears game yet I would definitely recommend starting off with one. The story was more like an idie sci-fi horror. Kind of like a Screamers, or a pitch black. The second game is good, but I thought the campaign was WAY too campy. It really took the summer blockbuster action movie angle and ran with it. The multiplayer in both versions was good, but I thought that the second one (after several updates) made getting in on a game a bit easier. I always play random pub games with multiplayer stuff, so it made it easier for me anyway. Definitely worth a play through!
I'm excited for gears 3, I have been inspired by this post to pick up 2 again and have been getting my ass handed to me all over again. Fun fun, rock n roll high school.

That trailer... does nothing for me... at all. Trailers should, in my view, either 1) show how awesome the plot will be or 2) show how awesome the gameplay will be.
That trailer showed nothing.

Well, hopefully in the medium-term future I'll be looking to invest in an Xbox 360 (currently assessing the various options, not to mention how exactly I'll be finding the money to pay for it. :p), and Gears of War will be high on the list of games to get for it.

You mean... they're NOT calling it G3ARS? Like F.3.A.R?
I'm shocked.

Xbox 360 Elite = £160
Decent Gaming PC = >£600
Whilst I'll always be a PC gamer at heart, my wallet will dictate otherwise for the near future.

Yeah but that 440 will be saved by the awesome of Steam sales. You have to think long term, Jasmine, for the children.

62 games and counting... 85% were bought during the massive sale last winter on the cheap :)

I played the original Gears of War as it was the only one released on PC and I thought it was just terrible. I kept coming back to it in little pieces because I sort of felt obligated to like what with the rave reviews it got, but in the end I haven't been that bored with a video-game since I tried the free trial of WoW.
It was all just so... samey and unexciting. I really liked the sequence where you fought off some flying fuckers with a mounted spotlight though.

Gears of War 1 wasn't really about the Campaign, and was a bit more about the MP. Gears 2 was centered more around the Campaign though, especially cause MP was terrible for lag and still is. I hope they work around everything in Gears 3 this time, because some of the bugs/glitches in the game was an absolute disgrace.

I was really into the campaign of Gears 1, think that gears 2 was entirely too goofy. I liked the darkness of the first one. Multiplayer is great when it doesn't lag, which has been a little better as the updates came out.

Is it a game series worth playing? I never tried. But it can't be all bad if there is 3rd one coming

I really love them, it's not for everyone. The combat element is fun, the story is pretty nonsensical, though I really liked the campaign of the first game. The multiplayer can be very frustrating, and takes practice, but once you get into it it's very addictive. The dialog is kind of like what you might find in a ten year-old's school notebook. :) At least rent the first one, it's cheap now that it's a best seller anyways.

Gears has a pretty good plot, nobody actually seems to notice it though. There's even novels for it.

True there is a lot going on and there are novels about it, but I've always felt that a product should be able to explain itself within its own medium. I mean, you really shouldn't have to do research on a games background if the story is tight.
