Alien Swarm: FREE Valve-Made Co-op Game
Alien Swarm is a new game from members of the modding community who have been hired by Valve. The game is a 4-player, class based, third person shooter involving aliens, guns, aliens and guns.
... did I mention it's free? Yes? Ah, well, anyway: it's free.
Looks kind of awesome and, well, it's free, so there's nothing to lose in trying it

That does look pretty fun. Waiting 2 days isn't my specialty unfortunately but I'll survive.

Well, Corey and me will definitely be co-oping this shindig the day it comes out. Though, it is four-player co-op.
Anyone else reckon they'd be down for some bug-huntin'?

The game unlocks in approximately one hour, any news on your Steam ID etc?

The Aussies are probably either asleep or out butchering backpackers, as it's about 6.30am there at the moment. Best time to get them is generally mid-morning to early afternoon BST.
This looks interesting though, I'll give it a download over the next couple of days (cursed 1.5Mb connection) and I'll be up for this. Co-Op is my bag, and L4D2 has lost its lustre a little for me.

Ok, cool. I'll add you once I sign in later. I'll likely leave this to download overnight. Steam has a big old list of queued downloads so I tend to only sign in these days if I've got something I specifically want to do on there.

Should be on my profile, methinks. I never can remember my account names off by heart, but they're always variations on the same thing.

Bangladesh Standard Time?
Yeah, right now it be crazy early, and I'm only up because of yon school of old. About 12 hours from now, something around your midday-to-early-afternoon, is when we all come back from the outback to throw our tucker in the cooking pot and leave it to stew. So yeah... then...

Jason, I've got an Australian connection that goes ~500kbps for Steam downloads and I estimate my download to take about 20-30 minutes
Anyone interested head to Jack's Lobby Thread.

Yeah, Alien Swarm can be played as an FPS with just a couple of console commands.
Enable the Dev Console as you would in most Valve games:
(Options > Keyboard > Enable developer console)
Then hit ` (to the left of 1) to bring up the console and type (hit enter after each line):
firstperson
asw_hide_marine 1
asw_controls 0
And blast away!

Doesn't work that well on the whole, though. Needa change mouse sensitivity, for starters, and it gives you a decided lack of 360 degree awareness.
Plus, you can't do it so well when you're tech. Last time I tried, the change in control scheme made the minigames cease to function properly.
/Edit/ Oh yar, and it takes a bit more effort to create a co-op server with cheats enabled so you can do this.

And you can play Half-Life in third person, yet no-one does. Why? Because it's meant to be first person.
Same thing here. The game is utterly amazing as it is and, well, FPS just wouldn't be the same.
